Accessibility Resources at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) collaborates with students, faculty, staff and guests to advance access within the campus community and to further extend both the mission of The College of New Jersey and the mission of the Division of Inclusive Excellence to persons with disabilities. As part of this effort, Accessibility Resources promotes an awareness of disability as a facet of diversity with underpinnings of collaborative efforts being rooted in social justice.
The Accessibility Specialist at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) serves as a campus resource for ensuring that students receive appropriate and reasonable disability-related services, works collaboratively with student and academic support staff and administration to provide a supportive living and learning environment for all students, and provides education and guidance to the college community to expand and promote an understanding of rights and responsibilities pertaining to accessibility resources and services.

Main Responsibilities:
- C oordinates and implements accommodations, auxiliary aids, and support services for students with disabilities.
- C onducts intake interviews to assess needs, provides guidance, and orients students on available support services.
- Reviews and analyzes documentation—such as educational testing, medical records, psychological assessments, and self-reports—to determine eligibility and recommend reasonable accommodations.
- Serves as a liaison between faculty, staff, and administration, fostering awareness through activities such as developing and leading educational seminars.
- Maintains case files and confidential student records in accordance with Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and college policy. Interprets and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws as they apply to disability and post-secondary educational environments.
- Serves as a departmental point-of-contact for campus outreach and programming events which include, but aren't limited to: Accepted Students Day (ASD), new student orientation events, Lions' Day Open Houses and College Union Board (CUB) & other College-sponsored events.
- Serves as exam accommodations support staff
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Accessibility Resource Center
- Two (2) years of professional experience in different aspects of administration and business practices; including design and implementation of policy and procedures, vendor service contracts and improving and updating management practices.
- Professional experience working on regulatory compliance requirements including, but not limited to, Title VII, Title VI, ADA, and other nondiscrimination and equal opportunity laws, rules, and regulations.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in higher education
- Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's Degree. Note: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year for year basis. A Master's degree may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred: Master's degree in Disabilities Studies, Special Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, or a related field.
- Final offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and reference checks.
- Residency Requirement: In accordance with the New Jersey First Act P.L. 2011 c.70, effective September 1, 2011, new public employees in certain positions (faculty exempt) are required to obtain New Jersey residency within one (1) year of employment. Applicants must meet the requirements listed.
