The offer will be determined by a number of factors including the selected candidate’s experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, FTE, number of months worked, as well as internal equity among our team.
Position Description
The College of St. Scholastica (CSS) in Duluth, MN, invites applications for a tenure-track chemistry faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2025. The successful applicant will have an earned doctorate in chemistry with a background in analytical chemistry. They will be expected to teach 24-contact hours each academic year, engage in scholarship, foster a culture of inclusion in the classroom, and participate in faculty service both within the department and in the College as a whole. The individual hired will have a student-centered focus on teaching analytical chemistry and integrating instrumentation use in undergraduate coursework. They will also have a demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations, cross-cultural communication, and multicultural competency. Preference will be given to individuals who have experience working with and maintaining analytical instrumentation for teaching and research purposes.
Primary teaching responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate foundational analytical chemistry and upper-division instrumentation courses, as well as teaching advanced analytical chemistry courses in the online chemistry masters program. The successful candidate may also be asked to teach introductory chemistry as part of a multi-section, multi-instructor team. We are particularly interested in faculty with research interests in environmental chemistry and/or bioanalytical chemistry given our natural environment and the interests of our students. The ability to engage students across STEM disciplines in undergraduate research experiences is highly desired.

There are eight full-time biochemistry and chemistry faculty in the department and the department has access to a wide variety of instrumentation for atomic, molecular, and biochemical analysis.

- Develop a research program that includes undergraduate participation
- Serve as an advisor to chemistry and biochemistry majors
- Participate in the work of the department, the School of Arts and Sciences, and the College through faculty governance, committee work, and other opportunities
- Contribute to and participate in fostering a culture of inclusion in support of College diversity goals
- PhD in chemistry with a background in analytical chemistry
- College teaching experience as instructor of record for one or more full semesters, including the use of innovative pedagogical approaches
- Experience teaching online chemistry courses at both undergraduate and/or graduate levels
- Experience with undergraduate curriculum redesign, including the creation of CUREs
- Expertise in working with and maintaining the functionality of analytical instrumentation for both teaching and research purposes
- Experience engaging undergraduate students across STEM majors in research experiences
