Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilizes inclusive practices to facilitate programs and initiatives with particular emphasis on those that promote equity and inclusion within the student residential experience.
- Manages an assigned residential community at the College of Wooster, fostering connections, addressing concerns, facilitating conflict resolution, and supporting students through challenges.
- Provides programming and resources that will promote the academic success, health, safety, development, and physical well-being of the students in the College community.
- Creates and maintains an environment that protects the rights and responsibilities of students within the community by upholding the Scot’s Key and other College policies, and facilitating community conversations, as needed.
- Utilizes comprehensive knowledge of campus resources to provide timely assistance and make appropriate referrals, ensuring students receive the support they need.
- Develops supportive relationships with students on campus to ensure the safety, success, and flourishing of all students.
- Serves in the on-call rotation to respond to calls from RAs, Campus Safety and Deans on-call. On-call includes being available to respond in person within 10 minutes on a schedule developed in the department.
- Provides wellness checks as requested for students in crisis.
- Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, recognizes and evaluates 14-17 RAs and one Resident Liaison to support approximately 650 residents.
- Presents training sessions, including in-sessions and other professional development opportunities for both peers and RA staff.
- Maintains an inclusive and equitable RA selection process.
- Holds 1:1 meeting with Student Staff under supervision and Graduate Area Director to provide guidance and direction.
- Hosts Area or All-Staff meetings weekly.
- Ensures the completion of programming requirements, bulletin boards and door decorations for RAs as outlined in their contacts.
- Supports RA programming: model effective programming efforts, offers advice and suggestions for improvement, manages annual budgets, shops for program supplies, and other needed tasks.
- Leads community building efforts in assigned residential area and supports the RA staff in floor community building efforts to ensure residents’ needs are met.
- Provides academic support to RAs through all academic endeavors, including those not directly related to the RA position.
- Participates in division wide initiatives and programs.
- Hears cases in the student conduct process.
- Attends conduct meetings, board proceedings and trainings, regularly.
- Assists in crisis response as needed in the event of a campus emergency.
- Establishes a positive working relationship with custodial staff, Campus Safety, and other campus offices.
- Maintains a positive attitude about the Office of Residence Life operations.
- Participates in weekly Residence Life Professional Staff Meetings
- Attends regular divisional and institutional meetings, as assigned.
- Coordinates Student Staff coverage during break housing periods.
- Communicates with residents in a variety of formats, including, hosting in-person events, email, teams and phone.
- Responds to parent and student concerns and questions. Escalate appropriately.
- Facilitates the room change process by working with the Housing Coordinator.
- Creates and updates documents, including newsletters and residential guides, as needed.
- Participates in opening and closing of the residences.
- Responds to your Wooster e-mail daily-on business days.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or another related field a plus.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in residence life, student staff supervision, advising student groups, crisis management, and event planning are preferred.
- Undergraduate and Graduate work will be considered for years of experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate with students in a variety of formats, including, hosting in-person events, meetings, email, Microsoft Teams, and phone.
- Attention to details; flexibility; positive attitude; friendly; and a high energy level are necessary.
- Experience with Microsoft 360, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and PowerPoint
- Strong time management skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates an ability to collaborate and work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
- Must be innovative, self-motivated, flexible, dedicated, and able to work both independently and as an active member of a team
