What are the responsibilities and job description for the EC/LS/MS Spanish Teacher position at The Colorado Springs School?
Roles and Responsibilities:
CSS is seeking an innovative, creative, and dynamic Spanish teacher to teach in Early Childhood, Lower School, and/or Middle School. The division placement will be determined based on experience, expertise, and preference. This role requires an individual who is a fluent Spanish speaker with a knack for developing the written and conversational aptitude of students. A successful candidate will have a genuine passion for Spanish culture, arts, history, and literature in addition to experience living in a Spanish speaking country for an extended period of time. This position reports directly to the Director of the division in which they are teaching.
The position’s preferred qualifications:
- A native Spanish speaker with a graduate degree is preferred
- A demonstrated fluency in the Spanish language is required
- Independent school experience
- Possess a track record of successfully teaching students at the Early Childhood, Lower School, and/or Middle School level
- Firm understanding of academic, social, and emotional development
- Passion for the outdoors and experiential learning
- Innovative mindset with strong skills in communication, collaboration, project-based learning, and technology
The Spanish Teacher will:
- Teach Spanish from an introductory to advanced level using best practices in language acquisition
- Attend all faculty meetings, department meetings, and other meetings as required
- Serve as an advisor for a group of 8-10 students, providing guidance in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal areas and serving as the school’s key liaison to parents for this group of students (if assigned to Middle School)
- Be able to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Complete grades/comments, advisor letters, and other forms of academic communication in a timely, professional manner.
- Promote the development of character, community, and curiosity in all dealings with students, including enforcing school rules
- Use variety, creativity, and flexibility to motivate and inspire young learners
- Facilitate the development of a positive class culture that supports learning and personal growth
- Appreciate and support varying learning abilities through robust lesson planning and rigorous assessment
- Provide regular and useful student feedback and maintain assessment records
- Communicate with students and families on a regular basis
- Know the developmental and academic abilities of one’s students and communicate with students and families regularly
- Pursue opportunities for professional growth on an annual basis.
- Support a differentiated and globally integrated curriculum that includes student engagement through project-based learning, hands-on activities, experimentation and iteration, and other active approaches to learning
- Be involved in the school community at large and participate in and contribute to a Community of Belonging in formal or informal ways
- Adhere to the standards described in the Employee Handbook
- Perform various student supervisory duties
