Job Title: Assistant Athletics Director

The Assistant Athletic Director is responsible for assisting the athletic director in leading the athletic department and executing operational matters related to athletic programs, student-athletes, and the coaching staff. This position serves as a liaison among school administration, families, and community members while upholding and promoting the spiritual mission of Community Church and Virginia Academy. This role ensures the smooth operation of the school’s athletic programs through effective organization, compliance, and program development.
This position reports directly to the Athletics Director.
This position is for the 2025/2026 School Year.
Key Responsibilities:
Professional Growth and Learning:
- Attend staff chapel, Team Nights, orientation, and other meetings and conferences to grow personally, professionally, and spiritually.
- Set and achieve yearly professional growth goals and continuing education credits.
- Undergo professional evaluations with goal setting and feedback.
- Engage in professional learning communities and relevant associations (VIAAA, NIAAA, VISAA, NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, etc.).
Organizational Management:
- Coordinate all travel logistics, including transportation, meals, and itineraries.
- Manage daily coaching and player schedules.
- Assist in oversight of athletic budget and financial planning.
- Assist in monitoring and supporting player academic progress, suggesting interventions as needed.
- Assist in student-athlete development, including life skills training.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
- Assist in management of summer, off-season, and pre-season sports camps.
- Schedule games and practices for various sports programs.
- Organize equipment storage, inventory, and distribution.
- Identify and report safety concerns for athletic facilities and equipment.
- Oversee the recruitment and onboarding of part-time event staff.
- Coordinate game credentials, parking permits, and facility reservations.
- Maintain an updated access control system for athletes and staff.
- Assist in procurement of supplies for departmental needs.
- Assist in organizing athletic events and coordinating event operations.
- Assist in leadership, development and evaluation of athletic coaches.

- Foster a Christ-centered, relational, and empowering culture within the athletic department.
- Lead by example in professional and spiritual development.

- Collaborate with school administration and upper school leadership teams.
- Engage with parents, guardians, and faculty to support student-athlete success.
- Promote the importance of academic achievement alongside athletic performance.
Compliance and Policies:
- Enforce policies stated in the Parent/Student Athletic Handbook.
- Ensure athletic programs align with school and league compliance standards.
- Maintain and organize required documentation for student-athletes and coaches.

Qualifications: Education:
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Desired: Master’s Degree in a related field, NIAAA/VIAAA Certification, CPR/First Aid and/or MAT Certification.
Experience:
Required:
- Passion for Christian education.
- Experience working with children/youth.
- Strong knowledge of education and athletics.
- Active Church member at Community Church.
Desired:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in athletics administration or coaching.
- Experience in database management, event coordination, and procurement.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal).
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of athletic program regulations and compliance standards.
- Problem-solving and adaptability skills.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
