Since The Community Health Clinic (CHC) opened in 2013, over 8,000 patients have benefitted from its clinical genetics services. The CHC is located in Shipshewana, Indiana. Shipshewana is a one hour drive from Fort Wayne and South Bend and two to three hours from larger cities like Chicago, Indianapolis, and Ann Arbor. The CHC is part of a consortium of clinics dedicated to providing care to the Plain Community, an otherwise underserved population. These clinics are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Wisconsin and are predicated upon providing accessible and affordable care to a population that otherwise experiences barriers to healthcare. Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Medical Director to identify and pursue new opportunities for the CHC to participate in research studies that improve the body of knowledge around rare genetic diseases
- Provide direct supervision for research coordinators and other research staff
- Establish collaborative relationships with other entities participating in research
- Ensure regulatory requirements are accurately identified and met for participation in studies
- Establish and maintain IRB and IBC services for CHC studies
- Work with the Executive Director and Medical Director to maintain an active and engaged Ethics and Research Committee
- Work with providers and clinicians to establish annual plan for education events
- Secure facilities and other resources necessary for community education events and screening events
- Develop and distribute print material to support and promote education events
- Secure grant funding, when available, to support education events and research participation
- Serve as point of contact for research-related granting organizations on behalf of CHC
- Support Newborn Screening program and other clinical operations as needed
- Mentor and lead CHC research staff
- Stay up to date regarding status of research projects and report to senior leaders
- Collaborate with other departments for effective services and efficient use of resources
- Participate in interviewing and hiring research staff
- Help as necessary with site visits. Audits and sponsor negotiations
- Build strong relationships with collaborators and community
- Participate in annual evaluation process
- The Clinic Research Manager reports to the Medical Director
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Genetic Counseling or similar
- Must have or obtain valid driver's license and an insured vehicle to travel to outreach clinics and community events as needed
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse population
- Must have a deep and broad knowledge of the concepts of genetics
- Experience in genetics research and clinical trials strongly preferred
