The Regional Risk Reduction Specialist oversees the implementation of a screening tool from existing instruments for the referral of women and birthing people at risk for substance use and other factors during the prenatal, postpartum and interconceptional period. The Risk Reduction Specialist coordinates ongoing provider training around screening and referral, conducts related Quality Assurance activities, identifies relevant system issues, and participates in collaborative problem solving. This individual maintains collaborative relationships with regional health care providers, community, social service, and academic organizations and uses these relationships to provide health education on substance use during pregnancy as well as other topics pertaining to perinatal wellness.


Essential Functions: 


 * Coordinates implementation and any necessary revisions of a screening and referral tool based on existing instruments for use at prenatal sites and other identified sites for identification and referral of women and birthing people at risk for substance abuse and other factors. * Trains site coordinators regarding ongoing responsibilities related to screening and referral and conducts Quality Assurance activities as directed. * Tracks barriers to care and coordinates collaborative problem solving of identified barriers related to screening and referral. * Collects data, develops/submits reports and works closely with Cooperative management staff to conduct ongoing evaluation of project activities. * Plans, develops, and implements ongoing health education and related programs for providers and consumers, in collaboration with other Cooperative and FHI education staff as well as other community partners. * Assists with developing social media campaigns including Facebook and website content. * Participates on appropriate committees such as county Provider’s Advisory Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (PACADA), Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies, and Prevention Coalitions to communicate relevant information to stakeholders, promote educational opportunities across disciplines, and to represent the needs of women and birthing people with substance use disorders. * Acts as a liaison between client, clinical staff and community-based programs in securing required services to meet continuing needs of client.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, social services, psychology, public health or related field
  • Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in substance abuse treatment services, public health, health education
  • Experience in a family outreach or perinatal setting
  • Knowledge of community resources and sensitivity to community issues
  • Good organizational skills;: ability to prioritize work load requirements
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with a variety of individuals and facilitate decision-making
  • Desire to expand knowledge base
  • Valid driver’s license, car and current insurance policy

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to see to read documents and hear well enough to communicate with others
  • Must be able to write, type on a computer, and use a telephone
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Additional requirements to be determined with input from Director and HR

Work Environment:


Travels regularly to sites where traffic, weather, and other environmental conditions may be encountered; otherwise works in a climate-controlled professional office environment generally free from hazards and other adverse working conditions
