As a University-Model® school, our Dialectic and Rhetoric students (6th-12th grade) meet on campus on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. The mission of our school is to partner with parents in the education and spiritual formation of their children by providing a classical education taught from a Biblical worldview.
General Job Description:
At The Covenant School, we believe the humanities are the central part of a classical education. Students must learn to read and write well to become fully human. We believe God has created all things good, true, and beautiful, and reading good literature helps students discover, appreciate, and emulate this. In the Dialectic school, students will read a blend of classics such as A Wrinkle in Time, The Wind in the Willows, and A Christmas Carol and modern books such as Where the Red Fern Grows and Hattie Big Sky. Teachers will provide direct instruction through grammar, vocabulary, and composition curriculum resources as well. Teachers will have two 45-minute lessons three times a week to cover Literature, Grammar, Vocabulary, and Composition.
Required qualifications:
- College degree
- Availability on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (days on campus)
Preferred qualifications:
- Previous teaching experience at the middle school or high school level
- Studied English, the classics, or related fields
Major duties and responsibilities:
- Teach Lit/Comp classes that each meet 3 days per week
- Plan lessons
- Grade papers and enter grades in online system
- Communicate with parents as needed
- Attend training days prior to the start of the school year
- Attend monthly staff meetings and periodic staff development
