Please note: The home where this position is located is approximately 1 hour from St. Louis. The residential home is in northwest Jefferson County. The largest city near it is House Springs. The exact location is undisclosed due to the confidentiality of the clients.

Job Title: Education Coordinator

Department: Education

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Program Director or Designee

Days of Work: Monday-Friday, 9-5 pm, On-call

Direct Reports: None

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To ensure the educational needs of youth in our care are met.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Education Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to coordinate and implement all educational programming for youth in our care. The Education Coordinator will work closely with Youth Development Specialists to facilitate a positive, trauma-informed learning environment. This role coordinates educational services in the residential home. Including, but not limited to:

  • Coordinate the enrollment of clients in the Missouri Course Access and Virtual School Program (MOCAP).
  • Monitor the progress of students to make sure they stay on track with academic studies.
  • Maintain contact with MOCAP to ensure the clients receive the best academic services.
  • Providing comprehensive learning opportunities through classroom instruction, literature circles, book clubs, project-based learning, recreation, and field trips.
  • Promoting education through meaningful and appropriately challenging learning experiences.
  • Administer assessments through MOCAP.
  • Tracking goals, credits earned, progress reports, and report cards.
  • Providing youth with technological assistance and monitoring technology use.
  • Engaging with peers to continuously assess educational offerings to enhance service delivery.
  • Communicating with staff regarding youth progress and youth needs.
  • Coordinate academic graduations for clients.
  • Compiling, maintaining, and reporting on program outcomes.
  • Complying with all local, state, and federal policies, rules, and regulations.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Representing The Covering House in a positive and professional manner.
  • Maintaining the highest standard of confidentiality.
  • Exhibiting knowledge of abuse risk management and peer to peer abuse prevention.
  • Functioning as a team member in all interactions with residents and staff.
  • Serving on internal committees as assigned.
  • Actively participating in staff development activities.
  • Providing education on sex-trafficking as needed to enhance youth care.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation.
  • Other job assignments as instructed by supervisor(s).

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field is required.
  • Certification: Substitute Teacher Certification is recommended (The Covering House will provide if necessary).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a residential or educational setting, preferably working with teens or trauma-impacted populations.
  • A minimum of 21 years of age, with a demonstrated capacity to listen to adolescents with understanding, help them find constructive solutions to problems, and collaborate with peers for service delivery.
  • JIREH certified (crisis intervention and physical intervention).
  • Moderate skills with Google and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • May not have a substantiated report of child abuse or neglect.
  • Must possess a valid Class E driver's license.
  • This employee must be able to transport clients in accordance with licensing standards.
  • Must adhere to a comprehensive background check.
  • Must fill out a medical release form and confidentiality form.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care in an academic context.
  • Proficiency with virtual learning platforms like MOCAP and other educational technology.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.

c) Physical demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; run; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; twist; stoop; bend; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs and push/pull or resist force during a physical restraint. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

d) Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time during transport, recreational activities, and outings. The work is very rewarding; however, may be physically and emotionally taxing. Shifts can potentially be very long or unusual hours due to the needs of the home.

Pay: From $44,000.00 per year
