JOB DESCRIPTION:
Must have prior pottery wheel throwing experience.
We are seeking a part-time ceramics youth class instructor who enjoys working with children between the ages of 7- 18 years old and/or adults of all skill levels. We offer two classes a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays or Monday and Wednesday for select age groups. and week long sessions, All classes require 15 minutes of preparation and 15 minutes of clean-up after each class.
The perfect candidate will have a semi-structured curriculum and will be able to teach hand-building and pottery on the wheel techniques with ease, glazing, and encourage and support individual creativity and provide new project ideas regularly.
It will be the teacher’s responsibility to create lesson plans and manage work through the various stages of the clay and glaze processes to ensure that items are completed by the last class of the session.
Patience is a critical attribute and maintaining a relaxed, safe and creative environment for students is a must. You’ll be expected to have students clean up at the end of each class and be responsible for ensuring the classroom is clean for subsequent classes. It’s important to keep an eye on students at all times, follow correct procedures, and be aware of any unique circumstances that arise and know when to discuss them with the studio manager/owner.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Arrive on time and display a mature attitude
- Develop class curriculum and manage the clay process from wet, bone dry, firing, and glazing to ensure that pieces are completed and ready to take home by last class of session
- Maintain an orderly, creative, relaxed and safe environment for children
- Offer skills classes for kids and adults of all skill levels
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Mature, positive and customer care oriented attitude
- Punctual and reliable
- Ability to stay calm, organized, and communicate with students and staff regularly
- ceramics experience required
- 2 years minimum experience teaching ceramics to youths ages 6 - 16 years old
- 3 years Minimum experience for teaching ceramics to adults or kids of all skill levels
- ability to teach both clay handbuilding and Wheel Throwing
- Ability to keep students composed and attentive; maintain control of class
- Ability to bring out the individual creativity of each student
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
COMPENSATION:
Hourly Wage: $10 - $25 depending on Experience
Position: Contractor
Available Working Hours: ( we have positions available for the hours listed - Flexible hours)
Day Program: 11am - 6pm Sun - Thurs
Evenings: 5pm - 9pm Fri - Sat
Private in studio Lessons: based on customer requests
Afterschool Program: (flexible but ideally) Monday & Wednesday and Tuesday & Thursday Classes: 3pm - 7pm availability. (classes require 15 min of instructor prep and clean up before and after class)
Summer Sessions: Weekly classes (day and/or evenings)
Reports to: Owner and Program Manager
