Job Title: Residential Mentor
Residential Mentor
Residential Mentor Floater 7AM-3PM Saturday and Sunday and Wednesday 3pm-11pm: fill in as needed
Department: Residential Services
Reports To: Residential Director
Position Summary: Oversee the safety, general welfare, and day-to-day needs of the clients residing in the shelter. The RM helps clients acclimate to a communal living environment by providing peer counseling/support, education, mentoring. The RM is also responsible for monitoring the 24-hour crisis hotline.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work directly with clients in the shelter by providing mentoring, proving crisis intervention, safety planning, and supportive services.
- Inspect the shelter communal areas daily; preferably at least once an hour, to ensure and maintain a safe living facility.
- Facilitate provide mediation between residents when needed by modeling and teaching non-violent conflict resolution skills.
- Assign and monitor residents’ personal responsibilities in the communal living environment.
- Conduct individual orientations, intakes, group house meetings, exit processes etc.
- Enforce residential policies to ensure compliance with grantors and funding sources.
- Attend Case Meetings for feedback and information and to develop working plans to address client issues. Communicate with other departments of the agency to resolve client needs.
- Create resident files and record client services by existing deadlines via Osnium software of by providing to Data Administrator. Complete all necessary paperwork for payroll, reimbursements and maintain accurate records, statistics, etc.
- Maintain safety and cleanliness of communal living areas. Report unsafe activities and complete incident reports for accidents, hazardous practices, etc. Perform light housekeeping duties.
- Report abuse/neglect to either Child and/or Adult Protective Services according to state law.
- Other duties may be assigned. Should such duties become routine, the description may be revised.
- Maintain confidentiality of the shelter and clients served.
- Complete all phases of residential intake and exits.
- Answer hotline calls. Must be able to handle up to four incoming calls at once, have good listening skills, be a team player, be flexible, respond to clients / callers with courtesy, project a caring attitude.
- Make referrals to on call advocates when appropriate and keep advocates informed of client status.
- Complete incident reports- record whenever an employee or resident sustains injury while on the job or on the property. Report incidents immediately to shelter director.
- Monitor shelter security system and notify proper authority if issues arise or of concerns.
- Take messages and ensure that they are relayed to the appropriate staff member.
· Supervise meal preparation, clean-up and storage.
· Hold residents accountable when they do not adhere to rules; verbal warnings, write-ups, etc., in a respectful and thorough manner. Notify residential director of any issues that occur.
· Maintain telephone/hotline call log to keep shifts informed of all activities.
· Communicate information to next shift.
· Exhibit a pleasant, supportive attitude always.
Other Duties:
Performs other job-related duties as assigned. In accordance with the team philosophy of the agency, may routinely be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed above. Act in accordance with the agency's mission statement and goals.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Prefer 2 years of case management experience and working with crisis situations. Good organizational and communication skills. Complete 20 hours of family violence training along with a 12-hour orientation through MCWCC. Complete understanding of confidentiality and privileged communication.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
20 hours of family violence training, and valid driver’s license.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequent prolonged sitting, walking, stooping, standing, stair-climbing and lifting of up to 20 pounds. Must be able to drive day time and night time hours.
Working Conditions:
Duties are usually performed seated with occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited physical effort is required associated with lifting and carrying objects (less than 25 lbs). Work may be performed, but is not limited to an office environment.
