JOB DESCRIPTION
Primary purpose of this position is to research new commercial/business bankruptcy cases and any
individual Chapter 11 cases. Once a case is found to have delinquent taxes for one of the Firm’s clients,
you will prepare Proofs of Claim and Notices of Appearance. In addition, you will key in this data into
BankTool and code account(s) in Tax Tool.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research new bankruptcy cases filed for commercial entities under Chapter 11 and Chapter 7, and
individual cases filed under Chapter 11.
- Research: Review all cases included in each PACER case filing report provided by various offices for any
taxes owed to clients.
- Research: Research and review Petitions, Schedules, Statement of Financial Affairs, and all amendments,
for any taxes owed to clients.
- Research: Review snail mail and emails daily to research and review for additional bankruptcy cases that
need claims prepared or amended.
- Administrative: Prepare proofs of claim and notices of appearance in a timely manner.
- Administrative: Input new case info into Bank Tool.
- Administrative: Prepare Proofs of Claim for Court Costs & Fees.
- Administrative: Contacts various firm staff and jurisdictions for additional tax information.
- Administrative: Prepare amendments to proofs of claim to add, remove, or update tax claims, including
updating Bank Tool with the changes.
- Communicate and coordinate with consumer case paralegals to shift priority on cases needing
immediate attention.
- Complete recurring special projects to amend claims, updating estimated amounts to actual amounts as
needed.
- Research: Review Harris County foreclosure list that is provided for any active bankruptcies.
- Occasionally may perform other duties within the scope of the job
EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES AND EDUCATION:
- Assisting with research of a Chapter 7 & 13 bankruptcy case.
- E-filing Proof of Claims and Notice of Appearances with various courts, as needed.
- Assigned time-slot to handle incoming department calls and emails.
- Use Microsoft Teams during work hours to communicate as needed.
- Organization & Time Management

- MS Word – Intermediate level
- Excel – Beginner level
- Self-Starter
- Ability to work and calculate numbers
- Detail-oriented
- Must be able to handle high volume work load
- Must be familiar with the Bankruptcy Schedules & SOFAs
- Must be able to make analytical decisions
Physical Requirement:
- Physical demands are sitting at desk and lifting 5lbs or less from time to time.
- Work environment is very open, friendly and courteous.
- Employee is required to sit, walk, and use hands and fingers to operate office equipment.
- Visual abilities include viewing computer screens and the ability to adjust focus.
Salary : $18 - $19
