The Dawes Arboretum is recruiting a full-time, non-exempt Archivist to join our Learning & Engagement department.
The Archivist’s focus is to champion our mission by preserving the historic collections of The Dawes Arboretum’s archives and sharing Dawes family history with members, visitors and guests. This is achieved by documenting and digitizing Arboretum and Dawes family manuscripts, photographs, videos, audio materials and 3-D objects. Attention to detail, collaboration, and organization are just a few of the key skills essential for success in this role.

The hourly rate of pay for this position is $19.00-$21.00.

Some of the specific responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Inventory and digitize historical archival collections.
- Create a searchable online database featuring the archival collection through The Arboretum’s website.
- Update collection records, photograph, and label objects.
- Cover museum open hours and lead historic house public tours.
- Perform research services for outside researchers and Dawes staff; assist visitors with archival requests.
- Oversee archival volunteers & create volunteer opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in history, library science, archival studies or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Two (2) years of demonstrated professional experience in handling and cataloguing archival material.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal)
- Superior organization and time management skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work outdoors and weekend and evening hours when needed.
- Valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
