JOB TITLE: Community Engagement Manager 

DEPARTMENT: Community Engagement 

REPORTS TO: Executive Director, Public Affairs & Community Engagement 

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Exempt 

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: Partial Remote 

 

 

GENERAL SUMMARY 

Under the direction of the Executive Director, Public Affairs & Community Engagement, the Community Engagement Manager, connects with residents and community groups in Tri-County communities to cultivate relationships, promote service agreement benefits/programs, identify partnership opportunities, and implement strategic and approved initiatives and facilitate access to the Museum and programs.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Manage and promote established programs such as Inside|Out, Senior Group visits, and other museum programs as assigned both in the Museum and out of the Museum in Tri-County communities. 
  • Facilitate on-site group visits from community partners by customizing experiences, welcoming groups and conducting post-visit follow-up. Identify opportunities to collaborate with community groups/partners to help enhance and elevate the arts in local communities. 
  • Represent the museum by maintaining a visible presence within the assigned communities by attending and/or speaking at offsite events.
  • Identify opportunities to develop and foster relationships and ongoing communications with community organizations and members.
  • Identify strategic opportunities to increase access to the museum for audiences in assigned communities. 
  • Collaborate with Marketing and community partners to promote and highlight activities in and out of the Museum.
  • Manage project plans from development through implementation, garnering internal approvals as needed. 
  • Ensure projects are completed within budget parameters. 
  • Collaborate with public and community affairs to contribute to reports on millage service agreements.
  • Contribute to project reporting for communication to museum leadership, board, and/or other internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Four (4) years of experience in arts education, programming, community outreach or community development required. Project management experience required. Additional years of experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.  

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES  

  • Ability to collaborate across departments and divisions internally and with diverse community partners externally.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer services skills and must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and acuity with detail.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to plan, manage, prioritize, and complete multiple on-going projects to meet deadlines and goals.
  • Must possess a demonstrated understanding of ethical business conduct and professional practices including maintenance and protection of confidential and sensitive information. 
  • Must be able to travel independently within assigned communities on a weekly basis.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including occasional evenings and weekends. 
  • Local and regional daily and overnight independent travel required.
  • Must be proficient in the latest version of Office 365. 
  • Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive, and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork.  This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor. 

 

 

Physical Requirements 

Must have the ability to travel independently throughout the assigned communities, including overnight, for up to one-week multiple times per year. Must have the ability to oversee installations in varied environments including outside in all weather conditions up to 8 hours per day for up to one continuous week multiple times per year.  

 

Must be able to communicate using various methods including in-person, telephone, and email. Must have visual acuity in order to be able to scope and identify locations to install reproductions and determine that installations are to DIA standards.
