Our flagship transitional work program- Ready, Willing & Able- integrates paid work, occupational training, and holistic supportive services to facilitate an individual’s return to mainstream society.


A Better Place is The Doe Fund's permanent supportive housing program for homeless men and women living with HIV/AIDS. The program is designed to provide long-term residential care, and twenty-four hour support services in a community environment that maximizes residents' independence while ensuring their physical and emotional security and well-being. The 28-bed facility has been in operation since 1996. All of our residential clients are referred to A Better Place through the New York City HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA).

We are seeking a Program Director for A Better Place. This individual will provide leadership and direction for both staff and resident. The successful candidate will have strong leadership, communication and entrepreneurial skills along with an understanding of working the HIV/AIDS population and relevant New York City and State agencies and funding sources.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Oversee day- to- day operations of the program including implementation of the fiscal, programmatic and administrative procedures.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the administration, clinical, building maintenance, food services, and residential services of the program.
  • Monitor program’s budget and contracts and ensure that proper documentation is provided for all expenses and accounts.
  • Oversee the intake process and ensure the program is operating at full capacity at all times.
  • Provide 24-hour on-call crisis intervention when needed.
  • Ensure compliance with HASA and AIDS Institute contracts and performance standards.
  • Responsible for the completion of various reports as required by HASA and AIDS Institute.
  • Provide supervision to clinical staff and ensure that staff is providing adequate supportive case management services to the residents.
  • Conduct performance evaluations on all supervisees.
  • Facilitate staff meetings, clinical meetings, and resident community meetings.
  • Conduct internal audits and quality assurance checks to ensure timely and accurate completion and submission of all required documentation.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with other agencies and community organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • LMSW preferred or MSW or related degree with at least 5 years of experience in a supervisory position.
  • Five years of experience working with HIV/AIDS population.
  • Strong leadership skills, including outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate an ability to inspire and motivate staff and residents.
  • Excellent clinical and case management skills.
  • Sensitivity to community issues and needs.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong ethical standards, confidentiality and personal integrity.
  • Computer proficiency.
