Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Dog Trainer to join our team in the North Shore of Chicago. The Dog Wizard is a dog training franchise that has been in business for 15 years. We pride ourselves on customer service, delivering excellent standard of care in training, and the integrity of our people.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal care and training, with the ability to work effectively with dogs of various breeds and temperaments. This role involves developing training programs, conducting training sessions, and ensuring the well-being of the dogs in our care. A commitment to positive reinforcement techniques and a love for animals is essential.
Experience
- Proven experience in dog handling, training, or related fields such as pet care or veterinary assistance is preferred.
- Previous experience as a veterinary technician or assistant is a plus but not mandatory.
- A strong understanding of canine behavior and psychology is essential for success in this role.
- Experience in Behavior Modification (preferred)
- Desire to learn and willingness to adapt
- Willingness to train personal dog utilizing The Dog Wizard approved methods as a demo for potential clients
- Leadership skills that will help our team grow and excel
- Excellent communication skills to aid in sales and team development
- Ability to complete an introductory online learning course by a specific deadline
- Ability to travel for a minimum of two weeks to complete hands-on learning
- Lives in or willing to relocate to the North Shore of Chicago
- Ability to legally work in the state of Illinois
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement training programs tailored to individual dogs and their owners.
- Conduct one-on-one training sessions as well as group classes.
- Assess each dog's behavior and create strategies for improvement.
- Provide guidance to dog owners on effective training methods and pet care.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for both dogs and clients.
- Monitor the progress of dogs in training and adjust methods as necessary.
- Engage in ongoing education to stay current with dog training techniques and animal behavior.
- Work with The Dog Wizard team to implement training to standard
- Identifying issues and problem solving to address challenges swiftly
- Self-motivated and willingness to learn and adapt to different challenging scenarios with critical thinking skills and problem solving
- Update clients on progress of training through phone, email and daily updates on social media
- Provide Lifetime Graduate Support to existing clients and future clients through Graduate Support Group held one time per week or evaluate additional needs as becomes necessary
- Assist in developing, maintaining community relationships through attending events, scheduling lunch and learns with local business and building brand awareness by training in the community
- Assist in maintaining client relationships
- Building the quality reputation of The Dog Wizard through word of mouth referrals, online reviews and delivering on the expected goals for training
- Communicate with the team effectively about inventory supplies, training needs of the dogs and basic canine medical understanding.

Pay: $20.45 - $31.00 per hour
