At The Door, youth can access health care and education, mental health counseling and crisis assistance, legal assistance, college preparation services, career development, housing supports, arts, sports and recreational activities, and nutritious meals, all for free and under one roof. By providing participants with our suite of integrated services, we seek to provide any motivated young person with the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to successfully transition to adulthood.

 

The goal of The Door’s Career and Education Services Department is to support young people in completing secondary education and successfully transitioning into post secondary education and employment.  Programs within the Career and Education Services Department (CareerED) are designed to help young people, who are in school, out of school and out of work, to assess, set, and obtain their educational and career goals. CareerED services specifically allow a young person to craft a personalized life plan defining the steps he/she/they will take to achieve those goals while developing the necessary skills for future life success and independence. The Recruitment Coordinator will create Department of Youth and Community Development related flyers and/or promotional materials in the career technical training. The career technical training tracks offered are subject to change based on the needs of the program and the young people we serve.  The Recruitment Coordinator will also work closely with the Assistant Director of Workforce Training Programs, Train and Earn Career Advancement Coaches and Job Placement Specialists to integrate career readiness workshops, credential instruction, life skills, and other workshops into the academic cycle so that students are obtaining the obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for Career Technical Training credential attainment, employment, post secondary education, and self sufficiency. The Recruitment Coordinator will conduct recruitment year round to ensure that the Train & Earn program has a constant pool of applicants for enrollment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and Enroll 60 young people annually into the Train & Earn program at the Manhattan site.
  • Create year round opportunities for recruitment to include open houses, information sessions, tabling at job fairs, street fairs, CBO events etc., as well as conduct in reach activities to promote the program.
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team with the Train and Earn instructional team, placement staff, and college advisors to ensure participants’ education and career needs, interests, and goals are being met; participate in case conferencing.
  • Screen applicants for eligibility as per DYCD Train & Earn funder requirements. Complete screening & enrollment data entry for 60 enrolled young people into DYCD Connect System. 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and practice the principles of positive youth development.
  • Provide coverage and support during program activities; develop and facilitate community meetings, award ceremonies, alumni gatherings, and other special events. 
  • Provide feedback to Career and Education Services team regarding young people’s education and placement experiences, challenges, and successes, to help inform the content and structure of program services.
  • Support college level and/or high school interns that will work with each respective team on completing set administrative functions.
  • Participate in relevant departmental, agency, and external agency meetings, trainings, case conferences, workshops, and events. 
  • Develop relationships with community providers to create a consistent referral base of eligible young people.
  • Handle any appropriate additional responsibilities and functions as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Managing Director.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field. Relevant experience considered in lieu of degree.
  • Experience recruiting young people for youth workforce development/ career technical training programs.
  • Knowledge of working with young people with extensive barriers, including young people with disabilities, to obtain and maintain employment.
  • Experience working with young people from underserved, high poverty areas who’ve experienced and have a history of trauma. Knowledge of trauma informed care service delivery best practices.
  • Ability to closely collaborate with colleagues and function as part of a team to promote successful outcomes for youth
  • Ability to model work readiness skills and appropriate workplace behavior at all times
  • Ability to work well in a fast paced environment and multitask while adhering to deadlines 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; strong computer skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and challenge students to achieve a high level of performance through rigorous academic performance
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, or French preferred

 

 Hours: Monday through Friday, 35 hour per week, occasional evening and weekend hours as needed
