Day Camp Adventure & Transportation Coordinator

The Adventure and Transportation Coordinator will be an integral part of our Summer Enrichment Team who are responsible for providing free, fun, summer daytime activities to youth who live in our partner communities. DREAM believes that every child deserves the opportunity to experience new and exciting adventures! In this position you would be required to plan our summertime adventure activities (off-site field trips) as well as safely transport our DREAM youth to and from these trips. This position would require you to drive youth from each of our sites (8 sites with 15-30 kids per site) on their respective trip days throughout the week. Trips can consist of local adventures within the city of Philadelphia or adventures in neighboring cities / states. There are also times when we may need an additional person on hand for programming. If there are times when driving and field trip support isnt needed, you will be supporting on-site programs.

Objectives of Service as a Summer Camp Driver and Field Trip Support :

  • You will be responsible for planning adventure-based field trips for all sites throughout the summer. This planning will include site research, supply acquisition, food planning, transportation itinerary, and risk assessments.
  • You will attend and lead all off-site field trips with each Philadelphia site.
  • You will safely transport youth to and from adventures while practicing safe driving habits, using DREAMs available vans.
  • You will be a resource of support for local Philly DREAM site-based programming when no program sites are on a field trip but additional help at local programming is needed.
  • You will be responsible for coordinating upkeep and maintenance of DREAMs transportation vehicles as necessary.
  • You will plan travel and activity schedules that make adventure trips and extraordinary experiences more accessible to our mentees and staff.
  • Provide youth with magical, memorable, enriching experiences in the summer in an outdoors environment.

The Experience of Service as a Summer Camp Driver and Field Trip Support :

  • You will be responsible for planning and coordinating adventure activities for summer camp participants.
  • You will be a part of our Summer Enrichment team, and be required to frequently collaborate with and coordinate responsibilities with the Philadelphia leadership team and Summer Enrichment Coordinators who serve at each site.
  • You will be engaging with youth aged 5-17 throughout their summer programming and serving as a role model to them.
  • You will regularly be driving in a sprinter van on small city streets, busy highways, and residential areas.
  • Its always possible that youth may have questions or cause additional distractions while driving, and so we appreciate your ability to remain calm and level headed throughout the entirety of the trip!
  • Your weeks will include planning days on Monday, and working directly with youth in the program on Tuesday-Friday.
  • This position occurs from June 2nd-August 11th, 2025. You will be required to meet a minimum of 300 service hours by serving 35-45 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications :

  • A drivers license, a clean driving record, and a minimum 2 years of driving experience (must have had a driver's license for 2 years).
  • Willingness to be trained to drive our organizations 15 passenger van and comfort driving in Philadelphia
  • To be an AmeriCorps member you MUST be 17 years or older, and be a US Citizen, US National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien.
  • Excitement and passion around working with youth.
  • Commitment to the entire service term (June 2nd-August 11th, 2025).
  • Exceptional communication and facilitation skills with a focus on direct communication.
  • Ability to remain focused and calm in an excitable environment.
  • Commitment to the mission of AmeriCorps and DREAM.
  • Desire to enhance existing skills and develop new skills necessary for service.
  • Commitment to serve as a role model for youth.
  • Elevated awareness of issues of social equity and social justice with a commitment to continued learning as it relates to serving your diverse communities in a manner that is respectful and aware.
  • A dedicated space to complete components of service that is not at a DREAM-supported site (i.e. responding to emails, researching activities, etc.)
  • Ability to regularly meet in person with your team or your service assignment in their assigned location (including responsibility for transportation to and from).
  • Access to a reliable phone.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and set priorities while giving consideration to those serving, your fellow team members, the organization, and the self.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Ability to focus on driving and ensuring the safety of the youth while behind the wheel with the potential for distractions.
  • Safe and skilled driving habits.
  • Previous experience in settings with high levels of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Previous youth work experience or motivations / preference for a career in youth services.
  • Comfort and excitement around working in an outdoor environment in the summertime.
  • Previous experience managing and balancing priorities within a projects budget.
  • Creativity, energy, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • A contagious and optimistic energy for DREAMs work.
  • Willingness to obtain a lifeguard certification (sponsored by DREAM), or previously established lifeguard certification by the time summer sessions begin.
  • First aid and CPR certification by the time summer sessions begin. (If not currently certified, DREAM will offer opportunities for certification during our summer orientation.)
  • Compensation and Term :

  • Dates of service : June 2 -August 11, 2025
  • 35-40 hours per week, 300 total service hours.
  • 750 biweekly , $4,500 total (6 pay periods)
  • These are PRE-TAX amounts.

  • If you engage in work-related travel outside of your commute, DREAM will provide reimbursement for mileage.
  • As an AmeriCorps member at DREAM, you will have the additional support of a DREAM AmeriCorps Director to help you navigate your service term and apply for publicly funded programs.
  • Work environment : This position operates in multiple spaces. The spaces included may have characteristics similar to a professional office environment, an indoor / outdoor environment with active children and students, at our rustic Camp DREAM, and within the program sites we serve. This role routinely uses computers and various softwares regularly, as well as standard office / school equipment (such as phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and printers) as well as equipment characteristic of an outdoor and indoor youth camp (pop-up shade canopies / tents, hand tools, activity supplies, food preparation equipment, storage spaces and sports equipment / toys).

    Physical demands : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee / member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job :

  • This position requires comfort working in outdoor environments, regardless of the weather. This position can be very active and frequently requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee / member is regularly required to communicate with individuals who talk and hear.
  • The employee / member may occasionally lift and / or move items over 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee / member is regularly required to observe and comprehend using vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Travel : Travel may include regular local travel and less-common interregional travel (visiting other DREAM geographies and for retreats and special events) during the work hours described. Out-of-the-area and overnight travel will be occasionally expected.
