Senior Director Business Development; Health Surveillance and Diagnostics

The Edens Group, LLC has been retained by an eighty-year-old professional services and technology consulting firm to identify a dynamic, innovative Business Development Executive to directly support their Health Surveillance and Diagnostics business unit. The Company has over 350 employees and reports over $100M in annual revenues. This highly visible position will work with the most senior managers across the company to develop strategy, drive business growth, and build and expand customer relationships on the business unit’s largest, most strategic opportunities.

Summary Description :

This position requires an individual with a talent for building and maintaining customer relationships across Defense and Civilian agencies, who thrives in advanced technical environments and can broker and win new business across the federal government. This position will work closely with the appropriate business programs to provide strategic direction and leadership; develop comprehensive and compelling solutions; support the qualification of new business opportunities; develop creative and innovative capture strategies; and assist in the preparation of winning proposals for government clients. This will involve partnering with technical teams to build a qualified pipeline, as well as working closely with marketing, finance, proposal and contracts to develop and win new business. This is a hybrid role in the National Capitol region and will require professional maturity to dictate your own schedule.

Understanding market trends and the technical direction of these customers and translating customer intelligence into compelling capture strategies and solutions is an essential part of this position. The ideal candidate must be able to leverage a deep mission understanding of customers’ needs and objectives of Health Surveillance and Diagnostics in research engineering, diagnostics and testing and evaluation.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the Company's capabilities to enable effective communication and identification of profitable business opportunities.
  • Cultivate new, and maintain existing, customer and partner relationships that drive new business growth.
  • Shape and execute annual business development strategy and long-range planning to build new business.
  • Actively identify, qualify, position for, capture, communicate and pursue government funding opportunities aligned with our capabilities and strategies.
  • Research, assess, and communicate new markets and emerging trends that impact the business.
  • Successfully partner with technical team members to develop and support customer engagement planning and execution, opportunity assessment and bid / no bid decisions, storyboard and win theme development, application of market and competitor intel, proposal development, and color team reviews.
  • Identify, partner, and drive internal cross-business unit collaboration opportunities.
  • Actively and successfully manage a robust pipeline of opportunities, including regular assessment to identify strengths, weaknesses, and solutions.
  • Represent the Company at conferences, industry days, and customer and partner engagements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of related business development experience in federal markets.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant science or business field. Advanced degree a plus.
  • U.S. citizen. Ability to qualify for a US Department of Defense security clearance. Possession of current or active US Department of Defense and / or Intelligence Community security clearance is considered a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of the US Government federal RDT&E markets (including DOD and Civilian Agencies), relationships, processes, budgets, acquisition processes, strategies, and partner community.
  • Strong working knowledge of the chemical and biological defense community, both across US Government organizations as well as industrial performer base.
  • Strong capability to identify and pursue developing opportunities involving analytical laboratory activities, engineering activities, and systems integration activities.
  • Proven success originating, developing, evaluating, capturing, submitting competitive research proposals in the federal research and development market.
  • Proven success working with researchers to generate, develop, and capture new business opportunities.
  • Experience analyzing and understanding market drivers, technologies, and customer’s mission requirements for current and future federal customer requirements.
  • Experienced with standard business acquisition processes for bookings capture.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce CRM, GovWin, federal opportunity tools and databases, including MS Office.
  • Ability to travel to and work from the Company’s Gaithersburg, MD office as required.
  • Ability to travel to customers, conferences, partner locations, and other office locations.

  • Salary & Benefits :

    The compensation for this role is very competitive. Base salary is in the $220K range plus a strong benefits package including an unusually aggressive 401K plan.
