The Family Counseling Center of Fulton County, a mental and behavioral health clinic located in the heart of the Mohawk Valley is seeking candidates for On-Call Domestic Violence Advocates. The organization, founded in 1976, works with individuals, children, and families throughout a six-county area with focus on clients in the Fulton and Montgomery County region. Over the past 45 years, the organization has built deep roots with community partners and become a trusted source for support, focusing on the individual empowerment of clients.
Who we are looking for…
A dedicated, compassionate, devoted individual who enjoys working with a full spectrum of clients providing victim centered, trauma informed case management services to victims of domestic violence.
Responsibilities include providing advocacy, counseling, information, referrals, transportation and related services to victims of domestic violence. All duties are to be carried out with empathy, client service, professionalism and the independent success of the survivor in mind.
Successful candidates will exhibit the ability to interact with our team and clients in a positive encouraging way, demonstrate a professional demeanor, understand and support our mission with a strong desire to help others.
Schedule: This position is as needed, during the hours of 5pm-8am week nights, and full days/nights on the weekends. The scheduled is made by the 20th of the month prior. Frequency and hours may change based on the needs of the program.
Qualifications…
- High school Diploma or GED
- At least one year of experience working with human service populations. Experience working in the criminal justice system and experience working with survivors of domestic violence is strongly preferred
- A knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence, and a willingness to work with diverse populations
- Valid NYS License with acceptable driving record
- Bilingual Skills a PLUS
- Ability to successfully pass OCFS background screening, criminal history verification and the Medicaid Exclusion Screening
What are the job duties…
- Cover on-call shifts on the 24-hour hotline (after hours nights and weekends).
- Complete residential and non-residential intakes with survivors of domestic violence that includes an assessment of needed supports and services
- Respond to hotline calls at the emergency room, the police department, or any other emergency location
- Be reasonably available to respond to shelter clients who need supplies, medication, or support
- Accurately and completely fill out all admission and discharge paperwork and Department of Social Services paperwork
- Provide advocacy, transportation, and accompaniment to all necessary social services, criminal justice, medical and other human service agencies with primary emphasis on services to residential survivors
- Provide information and referrals, supportive counseling, and NYS Office of Victim Services claims assistance to every survivor with whom you come into contact
- Be reasonably available to transport clients to and from the police station, hospitals, necessary appointments, and other domestic violence safe shelter all throughout the Capital Region.
- Complete all progress notes, demographic trackers, and other necessary paperwork by the close of business the Monday following their shift
- Mandatory in person initial training during the hours of 8a-5p, Mon-Fri, quarterly in person attendance at On Call supervision meetings, and other meetings/outreach events as required.
- Follows agency Compliance Plan and Code of Ethics
- Support and participate in agency Continuous Quality Improvement activities
- Other duties as assigned including assisting at the shelter when needed for activities including but not limited to assisting with food bank orders, and minor household duties
