JOB SUMMARY:
The Store Manager ensures the highest level of service, to the internal and external customers of the Co-op. This position maintains the flow of operations, and store security. This position manages, motivates, and provides all store staff with the tools, coaching and direction required to be successful in their jobs. Working under the supervision of the General Manager within approved budgets, operating policies and procedures, this position oversees the daily operations and activities of the store operations departments to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency. The Store Manager complies with all laws and rules of regulatory agencies, as they apply to the Food Co-op. The Store Manager supervises the Assistant Store Manager, and all Store Operations/Department Managers: The Front End, Produce, Grocery, Food Services, Wellness, and Meat/Seafood.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership:
- Inspires and motivates staff to achieve their stated objectives.
- Models supportive and participatory leadership qualities, promotes team building,
- Treats staff and managers with consistency and fairness, in a style appropriate to a cooperative work environment.
- Ensures that communications are clear, consistent, direct, and respectful.
- Ensures the integrity of the Co-op’s stated values in decision-making and in interactions with others.
- Ensures professional and friendly service from all store staff.
- Acts as a model to all employees following Co-op policies, supporting the mission, values and strategic goals of the Co-op.
- Identify opportunities for more effective use of resources, creating and implementing appropriate solutions.
Store Operations:
- Effectively manages all aspect of store operations based on the Co-ops goals, objectives and standards under the direction of the General Manager.
- Ensures store is well stocked with appealing and abundant sets, and displays, featuring fresh products and consistent with the co-ops merchandising strategies.
- Along with the HR Department and the input of Operational/Departmental Managers establishes, enforces and monitors expectations throughout the store.
- Ensures timely and accurate transactions and paperwork.
- Establishes, monitors and enforces policies and procedures for customer service.
- Ensures appropriate training of all store staff in the area of customer service, safety, and professional development
- In coordination with the Point of Sale (POS) Department and the Information Technology (I.T.) Department, ensures the accuracy of POS systems.
- In coordination with SIPS Manager, ensures store inventory is timely and accurate.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by the General Manager.
_ Store Maintenance: _
- Ensures that the store is clean and in orderly condition meeting all Health Department requirements.
- Upholds and monitors store safety guidelines to ensure the safety of all staff and customers.
- Ensure that all Managers and Persons in Charge (PIC) are aware of security, safety, and emergency procedures and are trained to handle emergency situations.
- Ensures the development and revision of all store standard operating procedures (SOPs) as needed.
- Ensures staff is aware of and trained in store SOPs.
- Ensures training of all direct reports in all procedures necessary to accomplish their jobs efficiently and effectively.
- Creates store financial plan working with GM, Leadership Team and Departmental managers.
- Executes and monitors store financial plans.
Personnel:
- Ensures compliance of store personnel with established policies and procedures. Interprets and enforces all conditions of employment with employees in compliance with federal & state laws and the Co-op policies
- Ensure accountability by developing and upholding performance standards with Operational/Department Managers for all staff.
- Ensures staff is scheduled consistent with weekly labor budgets and quarterly cost of labor.
- Supports store managers in hiring employees for department needs
- Ensures that departmental training for all staff is timely and thorough, including completion of training protocols and checklists for new staff.
- Motivates and provides staff with the tools and materials required to ensure high quality and efficient job performance.
- Ensures timely, thorough and thoughtful performance evaluations for supervised Managers.
- Takes corrective counseling measures and/or disciplinary action, as needed, for supervised Managers according to established personnel policies and guidelines.
- Assists department managers with disciplinary action concerning staff.
- Works with GM and HR to conduct investigations of employee complaints or grievances.
- Works with GM and HR to conduct investigations of employee harassment complaints.
- Ensures that meetings are conducted to drive consistent, clear communications with staff.
Budgeting and Planning:
- In coordination with the General Manager, Director of Operations, and Operations/Departmental Managers develops annual budgets including annual labor, operating and capital budgets, according to established productivity, labor, and cost goals.
- Works with Director of Operations and Departmental Managers to establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for sales targets, inventory, customer satisfaction, cost controls, operational efficiencies, marketing and promotions.
- Attends Board Meetings at the request of the General Manager, and all pertinent store meetings
- Develops and implements Store Operational strategic plan, as directed, in coordination with the General Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Valid Food Worker Card issued in WA, or acquire within 2 weeks of hire
Experience: Minimum 5 years managerial and supervisory experience required.
Natural foods or grocery experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to work in an environment with moderate to loud noise including, but not limited to: computers, paging, telephones, human voices, and machinery.
- Scheduling flexibility with ability to work a variable schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to handle multiple demands in a fast-paced environment, work under time pressures, and meet deadlines
- Ability to be open, to learn, and take on new responsibilities

- Ability to maintain regular, predictable attendance
- Ability to effectively train and motivate (provide leadership to) operational department Managers

- Ability to maintain proprietary, financial and other sensitive information in confidential manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and members about product information, procedures, and department needs

- Knowledge of, or ability to, learn troubleshooting of equipment
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, the regulatory requirements of outside agencies
- Proficiency in math skills
- Proficiency with computers, email, spreadsheets, employee documentation, and data organization systems
Physical Requirements:
- Able to perform cashier duties; lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently during a shift.
- Able to reach and lift/move products through check stand and into bags/boxes.
- Able to stand, walk and reach for long periods of time.
- Able to safely use/operate office equipment such as phone, computer, copier and calculator.
- Able to occasionally bend, crouch and reach to troubleshoot equipment problems.

Pay: $80,683.00 - $117,796.00 per year
