Position Overview:
Join us in supporting the next generation of makers, artists, scientists, and engineers! The Foundry is seeking a dedicated Youth Development Coach to empower students in our programming. In this part-time role, you will play a crucial role in building a culture of care and facilitating wrap-around services to our students and youth entrepreneurs. The position will work closely with the Director of Education and the Director of Business Development.
Duties Include:
- Cultivate a Culture of Care: Create an environment where students and young adults feel heard, valued, and supported. Foster a culture of care that encourages open communication and trust.
- Wrap-Around Support: Identify the needs of our students, youth entrepreneurs and FOUNDRYmade participants and make connections and referrals to support them efficiently. Collaborate with local organizations and resources to provide holistic support.
- Ensure Safe and Fun Learning: Collaborate with the Director of Education and the Director of Business Development to ensure that all programming functions successfully at The Foundry while maintaining a safe and enjoyable learning environment.
- Youth Mentorship: Serve as a mentor to the youth and young adults, actively listening, demonstrating care, and continuously learning about their needs and aspirations.
- Pre-Program Engagement: Take attendance, set up snacks, greet students before programming starts, and create pre-program youth development opportunities to engage students positively.
- Communication: Effectively communicate any student challenges, needs, or concerns to the Director of Education for prompt intervention and support.
- Professional Development: Participate in professional development training (at least 2 times per year) to enhance your skills in youth development and support services.
- Substitute Instructor: Serve as a support and substitute instructor for programming when needed.
Qualifications:
- Passion for Youth: Enthusiasm for young people and a strong understanding of youth development principles.
- Commitment to Holistic Support: Desire and ability to relate to students, continue learning about growing occupational fields, relevant equipment, and emerging products, and facilitate wrap-around support.
- Effective Communication: Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality with students and staff.
- Availability: Availability to work Monday through Friday from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm, plus a brief weekly check-in with our Director of Education.
Additional Information:
All Foundry staff are able to utilize our makerspaces for their own projects during non-work time as a perk of working for our organization. To access the makerspaces, our Operations Manager will provide a username and password to reserve space in our online scheduling system.
