Position Summary :
The Farm Director works directly to supervise and facilitate educational programming at our model farm this summer for all camps located on Sharpe Reservation. The role requires day to day scheduling, time off scheduling, educating camps about Fresh Air Farm composting program, conducting compost pickups at each campsite and taking responsibility for the overall implementation and supervision of the farm and nutrition programming, while upholding Fresh Air Fund camps policies and protocols.
This is a residential seasonal position based at Sharpe Reservation in Fishkill, NY. The role will be in-person and will report to the Farm Coordinator.
Responsibilities :
- Responsible for the overall implementation and supervision of the Farm and Nutrition Program with Farm staff.
- Oversee daily morning breakfast programs and occasional dinner programs that utilize farm products from the farm garden and / or local farms.
- Maintain the daily well-being of domestic livestock and the routine upkeep of the garden.
- Educate camps about compost programs, encourage their participation by scheduling compost runs, and help manage compost pile.
- Oversee farm staff to ensure they comply with safety measures of the program areas including animal handling / care, basic sanitation, equipment operating, proper food handling and other operational hazards.
- Oversee animal feed, food ordering and farm supply inventory.
- Encouraging counselors to participate during programming, ensuring their presence with groups
- Active role in caring for the animals and maintaining the garden at the farm.
- Understand that campers come first, and decisions should be made in the best interest of campers.
- Address stressful situations appropriately in a fast-paced, interactive environment.
- Strive to work cooperatively with fellow farm staff to achieve the program's goals.
- Explain and enforce the policies, traditions, and rules of camp.
- Scheduling and confirming groups for daily programming.
- Invest time with campers to meet their needs, challenge their capabilities, and serve as a role model during their time at camp.
- Staff reviews and evaluations with Farm Coordinator
- Take ownership of the use and care of Camp / Farm equipment and facilities.
- Be familiar with emergency procedures and follow them when necessary.
- Explain and enforce the policies, traditions, and rules of camp.
- Additional responsibilities as needed and assigned.

Employment period : Begins : June 5, 2025 and ends August 16, 2025
Compensation : $3300 - based on experience.
