Director of Concrete Quality and Testing

Purpose:

The primary function of this role is to manage the overall operation of the Fricks laboratory located at the home office. Responsibilities include conducting quality control testing, developing and managing concrete mix designs and reporting results related to compressive and flexural strength of concrete materials. This role ensures that all testing procedures are properly executed, documented and maintained in accordance with company and industry standards.

This is a highly visible position within the Fricks organization and involves close collaboration with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Executive Leadership and Company Ownership. The individual in this role will play a key part in reinforcing and promoting the company’s vision, core values, goals, and culture—leading by example and ensuring consistent communication and alignment across all levels.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate testing schedules in collaboration with Project Managers, Project Coordinators and company leadership
• Partner with internal stakeholders to streamline and optimize laboratory workflows
• Analyze concrete and related materials; provide technical recommendations based on findings
• Perform routine quality control testing and accurately record all test data
• Identify, recommend and support implementation of improvements to testing processes, equipment and set-up methods
• Conduct laboratory-based investigations and support development projects as needed
• Operate and maintain physical and analytical testing equipment according to specifications
• Promptly report and assist in resolving any mechanical issues or calibration discrepancies with lab equipment
• Monitor and manage inventory levels of admixtures, raw materials and laboratory supplies
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and high standards
• Ensure the laboratory is kept clean, well-organized, and compliant with all safety standards
• Perform additional duties and projects assigned by Management

Qualifications:

• Proven experience with concrete mix design is required
• Strong knowledge of laboratory and field-testing techniques related to cement and concrete, including relevant standards (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO, ACI)
• Familiarity with cement and concrete testing procedures in compliance with ASTM, AASHTO and other applicable standards
• Proficient in the use and maintenance of cement and concrete testing equipment and tools
• Experience with analytical testing equipment and interpreting results
• Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
• Demonstrates composure and sound judgment in challenging or high-pressure situations

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience within the Construction or Concrete Industry
• ACI Certification preferred
• 7 years of Concrete Testing and Mix Design Experience
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite, (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged standing and walking
• Ability to crouch, stoop, kneel, squat and bend for long periods of time
• Able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
• Requires full range of body movement
• Able to work in Shop/Warehouse environment, indoor/outdoor, and occasional inclement weather conditions
• Overtime as needed

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $150,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
