What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Assistant position at The Galloway School?
The Galloway School is seeking a committed, compassionate experienced educator to join our team as a Preschool Assistant working with our young two-year-old students beginning August 2025.
As a Preschool Assistant, you will be responsible for developing and implementing age-appropriate curriculum in our early childhood program, which is the foundation of learning at The Galloway School.
In the preschool program, students develop critical social skills and are immersed in a literacy-rich environment. Curriculum in the program integrates math, science and STEM activities throughout using a hands-on approach which provides opportunities for students to use their senses and national curiosity through engaging learning that challenges based on the individual needs of each student.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum for preschool-aged children
- Create engaging lesson plans that promote learning and development
- Provide a safe and nurturing environment for children in the daycare setting
- Supervise and monitor children’s activities to ensure their safety and well-being
- Assist with toilet training and personal hygiene routines
- Manage behavior and promote positive social interactions among children
- Collaborate with parents to address any concerns or issues regarding their child’s development
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of children with special needs or autism
- Model and guide students in a Christian environment that promotes responsibility, perseverance, caring, and open-mindedness within our global community
- Participate collaboratively in grade-level, divisional, and all-school teams
- Develop and practice cultural competence in teaching and teamwork
- Communicate effectively with parents and colleagues, both verbally and in writing
- Perform other related duties as required such as carline duty, recess, lunch, etc.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, energy, initiative, and self-reflection
- Motivate and engage students
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field is preferred
- Previous experience working with preschool-aged children
- Knowledge of child development principles and best practices in early childhood education
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to effectively manage a classroom and maintain a positive learning environment
- Patience, empathy, and understanding when working with children with special needs or autism
- A belief in the Christian faith and a desire to work in a Christian environment preferred
- Must be able to pass an initial fingerprint and background check and maintain clearance while employed
