Job purpose:
Come join our plant driven, design and maintenance team for our discerning clientele. We are looking for someone who is dedicated, love plants, wants to have fun and is passionate about creating a healthy landscape and work environment.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiast about providing top notch plant material for our design and maintenance accounts while managing our greenhouse growing operations. In addition, the person in this role would help our teams in the field meet and exceed our high standards for horticultural excellence.
Duties and responsibilities
Growing Plants & Greenhouse Operations:
- Responsible for management of growing operations and managing the planting of all pre-ordered plant materials.
- Care of plants – watering, spraying, pinching and spacing, which keeps the pre ordered ready to use plants from wholesalers.
- Distribution – labeling and understanding what plants are for what job and not over committing plants to one job or the other.
- Support and assist teams for cultural and growing assistance in the field.
Garden Health/Cultural Maintenance of Accounts:
- Visit the most critical properties at least 2 x per month or as needed.
- Act on any of the observations regarding the health needs of the properties prior to engaging subcontractors or crews.
- Follow up with subcontractors regarding observations of cultural needs for the properties i.e. treatment of any diseases and adjustments of irrigation systems.
Greenhouse Management:
- Schedule the Greenhouse space based on how orders arrive and growing/cultural needs of the plants.
- Ensure the correct plants are ordered and scheduled to meet the new installation deadlines, client arrivals and succession planting.
- Assessing and maintaining all greenhouse spaces equipment and supplies associated with the growing of the plants.
Qualifications
Education: BS in Horticulture or plant science, preferred or 2-year degree associates degree in ornamental horticulture or horticulture technology.
Qualifications include:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in horticultural growing or practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of standard concepts practices and procedures within a horticultural environment.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Self-starter with a strong sense of self development with the ability to work independently and work effectively as part of a team.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and excellent time management skills.
- Demonstrated reliability, dependability and flexibility daily changing schedule and situations.
- Possess a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient knowledge of general office procedures and office machines.
- Professional Certification – have or willing to get a Mass. pesticide license for greenhouse and landscape
Working conditions:
This job requires a person to work in outdoor conditions throughout the year daily. Primarily in a greenhouse or client properties in an outside environment with frequent exposure to seasonal conditions which may range from extreme heat and humidity in the summer to cold in the winter. Direct exposure to loud noise levels and moderate levels of dust, allergens and other chemicals.
Physical requirements:
The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, reach with hands and arms, as well as stooping, kneeling, crouching and climbing.
- Ability to occasionally perform sedentary work, spending extended periods of time at desk or workstation.
- Ability to occasionally lift to 80 pounds, often lift to 50 pounds, and constantly lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to maneuver throughout company facilities, including negotiate stairs in some locations.
- Ability to see at close and distant ranges, as well as peripheral vision to notice safety hazards.
- Ability to demonstrate normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; maintain corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
- Ability to frequently use standard office equipment such as but not limited to computers, telephones, copiers, and scanners.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00 - $30.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 10 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Weekends as needed
Work Location: In person
