Job Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Outdoor Teacher to lead engaging, hands-on learning experiences for children ages 0 to 13 in an outdoor setting. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children in an educational or recreational capacity and a deep appreciation for nature-based learning. This role requires creativity, adaptability, and a commitment to fostering curiosity, exploration, and environmental stewardship among students.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Delivery & Instruction:

  • Plan and implement age-appropriate, hands-on outdoor learning experiences aligned with developmental stages.
  • Facilitate lessons in science, nature, environmental studies, survival skills, outdoor recreation, and sustainability.
  • Adapt curriculum to incorporate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) principles in an outdoor setting.
  • Encourage curiosity and problem-solving through outdoor exploration, experiments, and play.
  • Integrate social-emotional learning (SEL), team-building, and leadership skills into lessons.
  • Teach students about local ecosystems, wildlife, conservation, and gardening.
  • Lead activities such as nature walks, gardening, hiking, camping basics, and outdoor art projects.

Classroom & Behavior Management:

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
  • Use age-appropriate classroom management strategies to ensure safety and engagement.
  • Adapt activities to accommodate children with diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Supervise and guide students in proper outdoor behavior, risk management, and teamwork.

Safety & Logistics:

  • Maintain safety protocols for outdoor learning, including first aid, weather preparedness, and risk assessments.
  • Supervise students during all outdoor activities to ensure a safe and structured experience.
  • Conduct regular equipment and outdoor space checks to ensure a secure learning environment.

Family & Community Engagement:

  • Communicate with families regarding student progress, upcoming activities, and outdoor learning benefits.
  • Collaborate with school staff, local organizations, and environmental experts to enhance outdoor learning experiences.
  • Plan and support family-friendly outdoor events and community service projects.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Experience in Education, Early Childhood Education, Environmental Science, Outdoor Education, or a related field.
  • Prior teaching experience with children ages 0-13 in a formal or informal setting (school, camp, nature center, etc.).
  • Experience in outdoor education, environmental science, or nature-based learning is a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Passion for outdoor education and child development.
  • Strong leadership and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to create engaging, developmentally appropriate, hands-on lessons.
  • First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain) and other required trainings.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to adapt to different weather conditions and work in an outdoor environment year-round.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift materials as needed for outdoor activities.
  • Must be willing and able to write lesson plans and implement them.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $13.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
