The Genesis Center is a community-based SUD treatment facility that has partnerships with faith-based sober living facilities in the community. The Genesis Centers provides a spectrum of outpatient services that includes Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP), Case Management, Peer Support, Individual Counseling, and Aftercare Services approximating six months in length. Job Summary:
The Peer Recovery Supporter provides non-clinical, peer-based support to individuals in recovery from substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges. This role important involves using lived experience to inspire hope, offer guidance, and assist clients in navigating treatment, community resources, and recovery pathways. The Peer Recovery Supporter will develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships to serve as a mentor, role model, motivator, advocate, and support system to help individuals sustain their recovery and minimize potential for lapse.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish supportive and trusting relationships with clients based on shared lived experiences
- Provide peer support and mentorship to individuals in recovery, focusing on empowerment, self-development, self-determination, and self-advocacy
- Assist clients in developing and reinforcing individualized recovery plans and setting personal goals in support of transitioning from a professionally-assisted recovery plan to a personally directed, community supported recovery plan
- Advocate for clients in accessing necessary services and navigating barriers to care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency policies and confidentiality guidelines
- Maintain standards of professionality and boundaries in both approach and communication with clients, peers, and professionals
- Maintain contact with recovery persons as they transition out of clinical programming to reinforce ongoing success in recovery and provide support for reengagement in clinical treatment as needed
Additional Responsibilities:
- In support of clients in the development of their own recovery-oriented strengths, share coping skills, tools for wellness, and other resources of recovery
- Connect clients to community resources, including treatment programs, housing assistance, employment services, and social supports
- Facilitate or co-facilitate recovery support groups and educational workshops
- Support individuals in crisis situations and help them engage in appropriate services
- Encourage in a non-judgmental fashion the use of harm reduction strategies and wellness planning to promote long-term recovery
- Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive support for clients
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required by Ohio certification standards
- As the Peer Recovery Support Specialist role evolves, keep up-to-date with community resources and visit with recovering persons to assist them in becoming familiar with identifying potential opportunities
- Identify barriers to participation in community resources and help develop strategies in overcoming those barriers
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must have lived experience with substance use and/or mental health recovery with an established period of personal recovery
- Certified Peer Recovery Supporter (PRS) in the state of Ohio
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to ethical peer support practices, including confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Basic computer skills and ability to document services electronically.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation and ability to travel locally as needed.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening per Ohio regulations.
Preferred Qualifications and Work Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience working in a peer support, case management, or advocacy role is preferred
· Familiarity with Ohio mental health and substance use treatment systems
· Training in trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and crisis intervention
- Knowledge of local recovery resources, treatment options, and harm reduction strategies
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and demonstrate cultural competence
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
