The Division of Safety & Operations brings together University Resilience; the GW Police Department; Facilities Planning, Construction, and Management; GWorld; Transportation and Fleet Services and Events and Venues to better and more strategically support GW now and into the future. Given the many close connections and strong working relationships among these areas, this organizational structure streamlines university services, increases shared insights and collaboration, and optimizes GW resources.
The Division is seeking a Senior Associate Director, University Events. The position will report to the Director, University Events. This is a central position that executes university-wide, visible, prestigious events, such as Commencement, Presidential Inauguration, awards ceremonies, centennial anniversaries, and comprehensive campaigns. The core responsibilities of this role are to plan and execute large events, to lead sub-committees comprised of representatives from across the university (faculty, staff, and administrators), to establish project plans, timelines and benchmarks, and to monitor event progress. This position also manages complex budgets of significant size, negotiates with vendors and arranges for the utilization of institutional resources. This position will also coordinate large groups of volunteers and temporary staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
This position is designated as Essential Onsite which means this position performs essential core safety and operational functions and typically need to be on campus even when access to campus is restricted. (For example: these employees reported to work daily throughout the pandemic – lab personnel, EHS staff, police officers, facilities staff among.)
The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC (but may require some local travel).
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working at a University
- Knowledge of event management, registration and ceremonial protocols
