Job Summary
The Asphalt Plant Grounds Person is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment around the plant. This position supports daily operations by handling materials, assisting with maintenance, and ensuring effective communication with plant personnel.
Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Regularly clean and organize plant premises, ensuring debris and materials are removed in a timely manner to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
- Assist in plant operations by safely handling and moving materials such as asphalt, aggregate, and other substances, utilizing tools and machinery (e.g., shovels and skid steer loaders) as required.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with plant operators, crews, and other team members to ensure smooth operations and quickly address any concerns or issues that arise.
- Support the upkeep of asphalt plant machinery by performing tasks such as greasing equipment and regularly monitoring its condition to ensure optimal performance.
- Strictly adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory guidelines to promote a safe working environment for all personnel.
- In-person attendance is required.
- Employees advancing in the role will receive training to operate plant equipment, such as the loader, and take on additional duties throughout the site.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Safely access and navigate the facility, including climbing and descending ladders.
- The position will require work outside of normal business hours.
- Prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
- Perform other tasks as directed by supervisors to support the smooth functioning of plant operations.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Must maintain professional relationships with managers and colleagues.
- Represent The Gerken Companies to customers in a professional manner, supporting the company's goals.
- Willingness to learn, with a positive attitude, dependability, and strong teamwork.
- Ability to work safely and efficiently is essential.
- Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school is required.
- Mechanical skills are not required but are beneficial to this position.
