The Senior Food Scientist provides technical leadership and strategic support to the business with limited supervision. This role leads the design, planning, validation, and implementation of product initiatives focused on new product innovation, cost savings, product improvements, and continuous improvement across the The GFB, Hudson Henry Granola, and several contract and private label customers.
Key Responsibilities:
You’ll add value to this role by performing various functions, including but not limited to:
- Lead product development, documentation management, project management, and commercialization initiatives independently.
- Formulate and execute product development from bench to production scale for new products, product improvements, and cost-saving projects.
- Develop new prototypes and identify, evaluate, and approve potential ingredients and manufacturing suppliers.
- Analyze market trends to identify opportunities for competitive advantage.
- Apply scientific methodologies throughout development, including trial execution, data analysis, and problem-solving to achieve project goals.
- Provide technical expertise and judgment to ensure appropriate scientific knowledge and discipline are applied in business decisions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales, Quality, and Operations to drive project direction through technical input.
- Understand plant equipment and processes to develop detailed playbooks and specifications.
- Oversee commercialization efforts, ensuring smooth technology transfer to operations and providing technical support for internal and external manufacturing start-ups.
- Drive continuous improvement by leveraging technical expertise to enhance the commercialization process.
- Develop research programs that optimize costs, improve products, and integrate emerging technologies.

About You:
You’ll be a great fit if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related field.
- Master’s degree preferred in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of ingredient interactions and functionality, with preferred experience in baked applications and cold-processed, ready-to-eat products such as nutrition bars, bites, snacks, and granola. A strong understanding of protein interactions is also desirable.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in food product development, food science, or food engineering.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Self-starter mindset, with strong independence, energy, and resourcefulness.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid project management experience.
- Technical leadership skills with the ability to drive projects forward.
