Purpose and Scope
The Accounting Specialist shall be responsible for processing and maintaining appropriate records of various disbursement and receipt transactions, with a proven ability to work and respond under pressure. The person must be organized, have keen attention to detail, complete tasks with precision, and possess the ability to make independent decisions while exercising good judgement. The successful Accounting Specialist will combine technical skills that include account reconciliations, information cross-checking, and process improvement with good verbal and written communication skills. He / she must be able to provide high quality service to Gideon staff, vendors, and international constituents. The individual must be able to learn new tasks, and he / she will be expected to work across various functions. The position will strive to build a continuously improving accounting system with integrity for the needs of the organization.
Essential Job Functions
- Ability to complete the various task around the accounting function.
- Complete account reconciliations
- Prepare and process payment requests in a timely and accurate manner.
- Process USA and foreign electronic payments through ACH and Wires.
- Validate proper authorization of payment and G / L coding.
- Resolve payment process issues.
- Process electronic expense reports for payment in accordance with Travel & Expense policies.
- Handle vendor inquiries regarding outstanding invoices as appropriate.
- Ownership of processing and producing correct information
- Liaison of information to supervisors and outside departments
- Obtain W-9 forms for appropriate new vendors to assist with 1099 filing requirements.
- Support the monthly financial close process.
- Handle confidential data.
- Assist in preparation of annual audit.
- Participate in daily morning staff devotions; on a rotating basis serve by praying and reading Scripture in support of devotion leader.
- Perform related and unrelated duties as required.
