Position Overview
The Scheduler at Good Shepherd Community Clinic is responsible for coordinating patient appointments efficiently while delivering excellent customer service and ensuring compliance with clinic policies. This role is integral in optimizing provider schedules, minimizing patient wait times, and supporting access to quality care across multiple service lines.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Scheduling & Coordination
- Schedule patient appointments for medical, behavioral health, dental, and specialty services.
- Verify insurance eligibility and sliding fee scale status before scheduling.
- Optimize provider schedules to ensure efficient use of clinic resources.
- Monitor same-day and walk-in appointments, adjusting schedules as needed to accommodate patient demand.
Patient Communication & Customer Service
- Provide courteous and professional service when answering calls and assisting patients.
- Confirm and remind patients of upcoming appointments via phone, text, or patient portal.
- Educate patients on required documentation, co-pays, and any pre-visit requirements.
- Address patient inquiries regarding appointment availability, rescheduling, and cancellations.
Administrative & Compliance Duties
- Accurately document all scheduling interactions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Ensure compliance with FQHC policies, including HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
- Assist with front desk and check-in duties as needed to maintain smooth clinic operations.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience:
Experience:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
- Experience: Experience in healthcare scheduling, preferably in an FQHC or medical setting.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (Athena preferred).
- Communication & Customer Service: Strong communication and customer service skills; bilingual abilities preferred.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Healthcare Knowledge: Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance verification, and scheduling best practices.
