The Gracey Law Firm, PLLC is seeking bright, diligent and intelligent candidates for a full-time Legal Assistant/Paralegal opportunity available immediately in a collaborative and friendly Oakland County law office based in Keego Harbor, Michigan.
Essential Job Functions
Legal Assistant/Paralegal will provide case management and paralegal services to support federal and state criminal defense, family law, probate law, business law, civil litigation and personal injury practice areas.
Essential Job Duties
- Provide legal support throughout the entire litigation process and administrative support in the office
- Become thoroughly familiar with all active client cases by understanding the nature of file documents and their relationship to the case
- Understand the litigation process in order to anticipate what types of documents are necessary so that documents are prepared ahead of time and pleadings are filled promptly
- Adequately compile, organize and update case materials while acting as a custodian of any and all documents and files relevant to active cases
- Draft, file and submit legal pleadings under the supervision of an attorney, including briefs, complaints, memoranda, motions, stipulations and reports
- Maintain a comprehensive organizational system for thousands of electronic and physical client files containing sensitive information
- Manage legal cases by preparing billing statements and CJA eVouchers, drafting correspondence and compiling trial binders
Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal Legal Assistant/Paralegal candidate is a college graduate with a strong interest in the legal profession and criminal defense litigation with the ability to make a long-term commitment as we invest substantial time and effort into training our staff. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are necessary with the ability to interact professionally with attorneys, clients, courts and legal staff. The successful candidate will be dependable and can think outside of the box, with strong self-motivation and ability to work both independently and as a positive addition to our team. The candidate will be expected to take instruction, prioritize incoming work, follow through on assignments in a deadline-driven environment and manage multiple tasks while maintaining an acute attention to detail. The position requires strong computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office. The candidate must possess exemplary proof-reading and follow-up skills. Knowledge of document management, Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Appointments and Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) system is a plus.
