Job Summary
Hand2Paw is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Development Manager to support our fundraising and donor engagement efforts. This contracted role will be responsible for grant writing, donor relations, event planning, and overall development strategy execution. The ideal candidate has a strong background in nonprofit fundraising, excellent communication skills, and a passion for supporting underserved youth and animal welfare.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Writing and Management
- Research available grant opportunities and maintain a grant tracking calendar.
- Utilize main grant research resources, including PHENND Listserv, GrantStation, Candid, and the Philanthropy Network of Philadelphia.
- Stay informed on research and evidence-based practices related to animal-assisted interventions, social-emotional learning, career readiness, trauma-informed care, and anti-racist practices to strengthen grant applications.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director (ED) and Board President on developing grant budgets.
- Compile and submit all necessary organizational documents for grant applications.
- Draft, revise, and submit grant applications in collaboration with leadership.
- Track grant reporting deadlines, write required grant reports, and attend relevant grant-related meetings.
- Ensure compliance with funding restrictions and avoid duplication in grant applications.
Donor Relations
- Maintain and update donor information in Little Green Light (LGL) donor management system.
- Manage corporate workplace giving platforms such as Benevity and process matching gifts.
- Track and manage monthly donor contributions, including outreach for failed payments.
- Develop donor engagement campaigns through newsletters and targeted outreach.
- Write and distribute donor thank-you letters and end-of-year acknowledgment letters, including personalized notes for major donors.
Fundraising Events
- Collaborate with the ED on goal-setting and strategy for fundraising events.
- Lead event logistics, planning, and execution, including securing venues, catering, auction items, and program development.
- Manage the annual Giving Tuesday campaign, including marketing, donor outreach, and matching gift coordination.
- Organize and execute small and large-scale fundraising events.
Administrative & Events
- Maintain an updated list of Hand2Paw board members and their credentials.
- Write quarterly development reports for board meetings.
- Collaborate with the current Development Consultant to ensure smooth transition and grant compliance.
- Provide monthly progress reports on fundraising activities, donor management, and event planning.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in nonprofit development, grant writing, and fundraising.
- Strong knowledge of grant research, application processes, and grant reporting.
- Proficiency in donor management systems (Little Green Light preferred) and workplace giving platforms.
- Experience planning and executing fundraising events.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.

Reporting & Evaluation
- Reports directly to the Executive Director.
- Quarterly performance evaluations based on grant submissions, fundraising success, donor engagement, and overall contribution to Hand2Paw’s development strategy.
Location: Remote with occasional in-person meetings and events in Philadelphia
Compensation: $35/hour, 20 hours per week
Contract Duration: Until December 31, 2025, with the possibility of renewal or expansion to a full-time role (funding dependent)
