Our Corporate Underwriting department is seeking a Director of Commercial Auto Underwriting to join our Corporate Underwriting team.
Position Overview/Objective:
The Director of Commercial Auto Underwriting supports underwriting excellence and product development excellence for commercial auto across the enterprise. The position reports to VP, Commercial Auto Underwriting, and will be responsible for driving strategic, financial, and operational management and development of Commercial Auto line of business in addition to adherence to underwriting guidelines established by this team.
This is a Full-time, Exempt role.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Develop and maintain commercial auto underwriting guidelines that align with business strategies, support profitable underwriting, and protect the organization. Work with business partners on communication and training of new and updated underwriting guidelines.
Identify underwriting improvement opportunities and create and deliver targeted training to improve underwriting execution and profitability of the line of business.
Support the development, maintenance and enhancement of underwriting tools and vendor applications.
Monitor the performance of the commercial auto line and recommend portfolio management and pricing initiatives.
Participate in state rate review meetings and influence rate filings, pricing targets, mix management, and appetite.
Provide underwriting insights that support superior product innovation, development, and maintenance.
Monitor auto loss frequency and severity and review large losses to identify lessons learned and provide appropriate guidance to the field.
Partner with all the business units that write auto to help support or develop individual initiatives.
Develop and deliver executive level presentations that communicate underwriting performance, pricing action, and strategic initiatives to senior and cross-functional stakeholders.

Required Skills, Knowledge, & Experience and Competencies:
Typically has 8 years years of relevant insurance experience including extensive commercial auto experience (underwriting, product management, and actuarial)
Strong written and verbal communication.
Strong influencer enterprise-wide across a highly matrixed organization
Strong analytic skills with demonstrated history in execution.
Ability to build relationships, internally and externally.
Ability to influence clients, peers, and senior executives.
Ability to manage complex insurance relationships.
Strong problem-solving abilities.
Salary : $142,000 - $170,000
