Join the growing and successful management consulting arm of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, JCamp 180®. JCamp 180 seeks an experienced organizational development professional for the position of Consultant who will provide relationship management and consulting services to a portfolio of nonprofit Jewish camps.

Joining a team of twelve, this position provides services to the year-round staff and boards of directors of over 140 Jewish overnight and day camps to advance their organizational effectiveness and long-term financial sustainability. JCamp 180 operates in the core content areas of : fundraising, board development and governance, strategic planning and camp business services (enrollment recruitment and retention strategies, marketing and communications, financial literacy and management, alumni engagement, and data-informed decision-making).

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will bring a mix of knowledge and experience in both the content areas in which JCamp 180 works (Fundraising, Board Development and Governance, Strategic Planning and Camp Business Services) and in the functional ways we work (consulting, training, program management, grantmaking). We define content expertise in the following way :

  • Content mastery – general knowledge in the content areas, plus deeper expertise in one of these areas. General knowledge includes understanding current nonprofit leading practices and the field landscape, and the ability to support curriculum development and training on the topic. Deeper expertise in one of the areas includes the ability to consult independently on the topic, conceive of and develop a new program or service offerings related to the topic, and the ability to share knowledge and lead the JCamp 180 team to new thinking and approaches in our overall offerings. We are especially looking for a candidate with significant fundraising or governance expertise.
  • Further specialized experience and field knowledge especially as it relates to nonprofit (Jewish) summer camps will be viewed favorably, in any of the following areas : enrollment, financial management / literacy, day camping, alumni engagement, human resources management, DEI work as it relates to strategy, capital project planning, culture change, and more.

Responsibilities and Duties

Reporting to the director of JCamp 180, the responsibilities and duties of the Consultant consist of (but are not limited to) :

1. Client Management / Relationship Management (~30%). Work with camp clients to connect them with JCamp 180 programs and services including matching grants focused on capital projects, professional development programs, other learning and webinars, research and reporting, and our annual conference. The primary objective is to build a relationship with each client organization, including the camp’s senior professional staff and lay leaders, built upon trust and open communication to best facilitate the client’s capacity building goals and success with JCamp 180 grants and programs. The Consultant will manage a caseload of assigned client organizations located across the US and Canada, including 1) intake and on-boarding of new clients; 2) annual assessment and evaluation; 3) grants support; and 4) communications.

2. Consulting (~30%). Provide JCamp 180 affiliated camp clients with time-limited contracted consulting services in areas of specialization and expertise. Consulting services typically offered by JCamp 180 include, but are not limited to strategic planning, board development and other governance issues, fundraising, as well as other limited specialized topics. Consulting is offered to our clients free of charge as part of their affiliation with JCamp 180.

3. Advanced Training and Learning and Special Projects (~30%). Working collaboratively with other members of the JCamp 180 team, design, plan, and implement advanced training and learning opportunities for clients which may include the JCamp 180 Camp Conference, a new or existing professional development program, JCamp 180 grants programs, on-boarding new cohorts of camps, or and other assignments as needed.

4. Administration and Foundation-wide responsibilities (~10%). Participate in HGF-wide organizational meetings and gatherings, present and / or attend other HGF signature program conferences (Life & Legacy, PJ Library), and more.

Requirements :

  • Mastery of one or more of the JCamp 180 core content areas and ability to consult to and train clients on a broad range of topics, communicate with and persuade a variety of constituents and audiences, synthesize information and diagnose organizational issues, and bring new knowledge to JCamp 180 and the camp community.
  • Demonstrated experience providing training, consulting services and product deliverables to clients, preferably to nonprofit professionals and board leaders.
  • Commitment to collaboration with an ability to work in partnership with colleagues and peers to advance JCamp 180’s collective work and the overall department goals.
  • At least ten years full-time relevant work experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite as well as facility or advanced skills with current technologies that enable tracking, communication, data management and project management (Salesforce, Zoom, Slack, Wrike, Tableau, AirTable, etc. or equivalent.)
  • Ability to travel up to 20-25% of the time throughout the U.S. and Canada to attend board meetings, site visits and conferences, with an emphasis on summer travel.

  • Location

    The Harold Grinspoon Foundation is located in Agawam, MA and candidates who are based locally will be favorably reviewed. The Foundation will also consider candidates based remotely for this position.

    Compensation

    A competitive salary ranging from $95,000 - $110,000 annually.
