The Corporate Controller will be responsible for designing and implementing processes and controls to ensure the timely, accurate recording and reporting of business performance, to safeguard the assets of the company through the development of documented controls and procedures, and to identify and help develop opportunities to enhance processes, across all company operations. In this capacity, the Corporate Controller will oversee the accounting, report and control environment of the enterprise. The Corporate Controller will lead the accounting team, enhance financial systems and processes, and act as a key partner to executive leadership.
This role can be located in Twinsburg, OH or Shelton, CT
Key Responsibilities
Controllership:
- Develop and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures across the entire organization.
- Ensure policies and procedures are adopted throughout all operating functions.
- Ensure the development of accounting and control resources across the entire enterprise.
- Simplify current Chart of Accounts and document nature of each account within Gross to Net reporting.
- Assess productivity of existing shared service functions and identify opportunities to enhance value, accuracy and speed.
- Provide leadership to upgrade existing ERP/other systems in areas of accounting and financial control.
- Consolidate financial results across all four plants and provide detailed variance analyses.
Financial Reporting:
- Ensure timely and accurate closing of monthly, quarterly and annual management reporting in accordance with US GAAP.
- Along with the Director of FP&A, oversee accurate and timely distribution of daily, weekly and monthly cash reporting requirements.
- Along with the Director of FP&A, assist in the preparation of monthly reporting package(s) to the Board.
- Communicate with Executive Management on the status of control frameworks across the organization.
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management:
- Oversee cost accounting processes to ensure accurate product costing and margin analysis.
- Monitor inventory valuation and perform periodic inventory reconciliations across all plants.
- Work closely with plant managers to optimize inventory levels and reduce waste.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, as well as regulatory requirements.
- Stay current with changes in accounting standards and regulations and communicate their impact on the company.
- Manage and lead the external audit process working closely with external audit partners.
- Partner with external audit partners to ensure the enterprise is well controlled while identifying opportunities to enhance process and controls.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Direct and mentor the accounting team to ensure high performance and professional growth.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, supply chain, and sales, to align financial strategies with business objectives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelors degree in business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA designation strongly preferred.
- Experience: avg. 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 years in a senior leadership role within a manufacturing environment (plastics industry experience is a plus).
- Private Equity experience preferred
- Big4 Accounting Firm experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and financial reporting.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi-site financial operations.
- Proven track record of leading teams and driving process improvements.
