THE OPPORTUNITY

The Director of Development and Community Relations will be a senior leader working with the Executive Director to encourage philanthropy, build community awareness, and manage the organizational brand and community footprint for The Healing Place of New Hanover County. The Director of Mission Advancement manages all development systems and strategy, including donor relations and management, agency media, marketing and communications, event management, corporate philanthropy, and major fundraising appeals. In addition, this position will create and execute a Strategic Plan for building Community Awareness and working with Executive Director, senior team, and Board to engage civic/political leaders, healthcare leaders, and service partners who can ensure that individuals who need THPNHC services are quickly identified and referred for enrollment.


CANDIDATE PROFILE AND DUTIES

Essential functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide strategic fundraising, public relations, and community engagement management to maintain consistent communication of mission, vision, and
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement plan for internal and external constituents, community leaders, referral sources, and the recovery community.
  • Provide input and support for THPNHC's strategic plan
  • Develop fundraising programs that support Agency goals; Participate in the planning, management, and execution of annual funds, capital campaigns, and planned
  • Identify, manage, and solicit a personal portfolio of donors and prospects comprised of individuals, corporations, foundations, and government entities to secure annual operating support, planned giving, and special
  • Write and present all proposals for funding from individuals, corporations, foundations, and when needed, government entities.
  • Design and implement effective tailored cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for donor prospects in assigned portfolios; directly soliciting or, as part of a team, meeting defined goals for donor and prospect communication, visits, proposal presentations, and dollars
  • Maintain records of contacts, proposals, tasks and other details for prospects, donors, and community resources. Provides reports when
  • Manage contact information in donor management system and coordinate reconciliation of financial records and reporting.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan and calendar for audiences and constituents of THPNHC.
  • Communicate in a transparent and effective manner with staff, senior leadership, board members, volunteers and program alumni while cultivating positive personal relationships with
  • Coordinate and organize special events, promotions, and community events to further awareness and engagement of friends and donors.
  • Create and manage print, presentation, and digital communications vehicles to create momentum and awareness for the organization and events.
  • Oversee electronic communication channels and social media strategy.
  • Serve as a liaison between THPNHC and regional media outlets. Coordinate media placements and produce talking points and statements for dissemination to media and public.

  • Collaborates with peers to provide the best donor-centered practices.
  • Maintaining a presence consistent with the professional, ethical, and moral standards of the development profession and THPNHC.
  • Being committed to the process of continuous improvement and seeking additional skills within local peer organizations and professional groups.
  • Being available to work nights and/or weekends to facilitate special events, when needed.
  • Commitment to financial controls and managing programs within an approved budget.
  • Adhere to the professional standards of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and commitment to the philosophies of Donor Centeredness and Person-Centered Care while performing duties.
  • Cultivates effective, discrete, respectful relationships with residents, families, volunteers, visitors, donors, and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of a client's pertinent health and financial information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines, promotes client safety.

REQUIRED and PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; open to non-traditional candidates with transferable business skills
  • A demonstrated understanding of the Wilmington/Lower Cape Fear region is preferred
  • Three to five years of experience (paid or volunteer) in fund raising/resource development is required, including a record of success cultivating, soliciting, and closing major gifts
  • Additional experience in Community Engagement, Marketing, or Communications is required
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and donor database programs is required (Donor Perfect is the donor database that is used by the central office, and it will be used by THPNHC)
  • Living in or near New Hanover County NC is required
  • Ability to work flexible hours, with occasional evenings and weekends is required
  • Excellent written/oral/interpersonal communication skills is required
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of information, people and processes is required
  • Comfortable communicating with individuals with a diversity of backgrounds, income levels, and influence
  • Organized with strong time management and attention to detail
