Job Description

Position Summary

The Prep Cook is responsible for providing a supportive role to kitchen staff in the preparation of meals and ingredients. Their duties include organizing and labeling food items in storage closets, performing tasks like chopping ingredients, preparing salads and sanitizing their work station during and after service. The shift is 10:30 am-7:30pm Sunday-Thursday.

Essential Functions Statements

• Completing all tasks, in order, on the prep list from the Executive Chef.
• Labeling and stocking all ingredients on easily accessible shelves.
• Washing, chopping and sorting ingredients like fruits, vegetables and meats.
• Measuring quantities of seasonings and other cooking ingredients per established recipes.
• Parboiling food, reducing sauces and starting first steps in various dishes.
• Prepares simple dishes such as salads, entrees etc.
• Cleaning dishes, washing cooking utensils and cookware, taking out the trash and sanitizing kitchen.
• Adhering to all relevant nutrition and sanitary regulations and standards.
• Keeping track of ingredient inventory and collaborating with other kitchen and management staff to order resupply
  
  

Experience

Skills & Abilities

• Experience as prep cook preferred. Will train.
• Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen.
• Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils.
• A team player with good communication skills.
• Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure.
• Very good physical condition and endurance.
• High school diploma or equivalent is desirable; Training from a culinary school is a plus.

• Must report to work on time, and know work schedule in advance
• Complete all work by end of scheduled shift
• Must understand and comply with the departmental policies and the overall policies and procedures of The Hearthstone
• Must be able to follow written and verbal directions entirely
• Must follow dress code and wear uniform as required, including restraining long hair in an acceptable manner
• Be prepared to assist residents and respond to their special requests
