HJF is seeking a Clinical Research Associate II to support the Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP), in the Department of Military and Emergency Medicine within Uniformed Services University (USU). The Clinical Research Associate II will support the education and training team. Responsible for reading, analyzing, preparing presentations, translating research, and other research/education related content, to educate Service Members, military family members, Commanders, health care and performance professionals, the DoD at large and the greater public about physical fitness performance, injury prevention, strength and conditioning principles, and extreme environments effect on the human body. Content will primarily be developed to support CHAMP’s educational website, Human Performance Resources by CHAMP (HPRC-online.org). This individual is will also assist with outreach efforts: contacting potential DoD and Federal government entities for partnership, collaboration, and/or providing services to their audience members such as providing presentations and/or educational materials. Finally, this position will assist with the development of the Health and Holistic Fitness Advisor (H2F-A) curriculum CHAMP is producing for the U.S. Army.

CHAMP carries out and translates research to improve service member performance in the field and returning to duty. CHAMP aims to be DoD’s best resource for evidence-based information on human performance optimization (HPO) to improve the performance and resilience of our service members and their families.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a scientific resource and subject matter expert on military physical fitness topics for CHAMP and the DoD at large. Reviews and translates exercise and environmental physiology literature/information/trends and translate into educational materials articles, videos, graphics, worksheets, curricula, etc.). Evaluates the significance of new directions and emerging trends to optimize performance in accordance with DoD missions and objectives. Utilize this research to develop new and update existing content on from CHAMP’s educational websites.
  • Assists with the development of H2F-A physical fitness course curriculum
  • Develops and delivers presentations, training, and workshops to DoD stakeholders (Service Members, military family members, healthcare providers, performance professionals, military leadership, military graduate and undergraduate students, etc.) on physical fitness content that is evidence-based and military specific. Presentations are in person, virtual, and/or recorded.
  • Sustains relationships with DoD stakeholders (Service Members, health care and performance providers, military leaders, etc.) to inform the creation and dissemination of materials. Engages in outreach efforts to increase the DoD and professional communities’ awareness of program’s resources.
  • Assists with answering general physical fitness or physiology in various environmental settings questions emailed by physicians/medics/Service Members.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree required
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Experience in evaluating and interpreting research data and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience and knowledge in translation of research, health promotion and health education. Knowledge of theories of behavior change and adult education.
  • Knowledge of DoD policies and programs related to domain area of expertise.
  • Abilities in public speaking and presenting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, independently, and supervise others.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of physical fitness and strength and conditioning.
  • Ability to write progress reports in a clear and concise manner. Ability to establish goals and agendas.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust/CAC.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist or equivalent required; additional athletic training certification, physical or occupational therapy credentials preferred

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a office or clinic setting.
