The Heritage Group (THG) is seeking a joint intern for the External Affairs and Legal department. The internship will run from May 12th - August 1st. The intern will learn about the daily operations of The Heritage Group's External Affairs and Legal teams and develop an in-depth working knowledge of public policy issues facing The Heritage Group as well as the legislative process.
Essential Functions
The Heritage Group Internship Program provides hands-on, paid experiences in a corporate function or within one of our many operating companies. Interns can expect to network with other students and professionals, gain useful skills, receive mentoring, and make their own contributions to the organization. Additionally, interns can participate in our weekly hosted events focused on professional development, team building, and community service.
Intern pay is non-negotiable and is calculated based on current academic class standing $17/hour (Freshman) - $20/hour (Senior), etc.

Essential Functions
- Help external affairs team coordinate a day at the track for legislators and elected officials for Carb Day.
- Help invite elected officials to industry events (i.e. US Agg plant inspections) and attend such events.
- Research and write memos on various policy proposals.
- Conduct legal research projects and summarize findings.
- Review and revise company policies and procedures.
- Attend legal team strategy meetings.
- Create power point presentations concerning relevant legal updates.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company’s core values, competencies, and skills.
- Required High School or Equivalent
- Preferred Bachelor's Degree : Open to all current college students pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited institution with preference for journalism, pre-law, political science, etc.
- Ability to troubleshoot challenges that arise.
- A "figure it out” mentality and willingness to tackle any situation that may come your way.
- Proficiencies in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft tools.
- Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and carry small parcels, packages and other items and walk short distances.
