Job Summary: The Network Administrator I will be responsible for managing and maintaining the networks of our organization.  The Network Administrator I will provide both strategic and tactical guidance, to achieve financial, operational and will play a crucial role in ensuring the network infrastructure operates smoothly, efficiently, and securely, collaborating with other IT professionals to implement and support network solutions that meet the organization's needs. Expertise in networking technologies and troubleshooting will be essential in resolving complex network issues and optimizing network performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Network Infrastructure Management:

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot various network infrastructures both locally and remote, including Cisco switches, FortiNet firewalls, access points and controllers, and various other virtual and physical network appliances.
  • Implement and manage network services, such as IPSEC, VPN, SIP, DHCP, DNS, VLANS, OSPF, EIGRP, AAA and VNET

 

  • Collaborate with network engineers to design, plan, and implement network infrastructure improvements and upgrades.
  • Monitor network performance and ensure maximum uptime and availability.
  • Conduct regular network assessments to identify and address areas of improvement.

Network Security:

  • Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection systems, and access control policies.
  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and address potential threats.
  • Monitor network traffic for suspicious activities and take appropriate action.
  • Stay updated with the latest security threats and best practices to proactively protect the network infrastructure.

 

Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:

  • Diagnose and resolve complex network issues related to connectivity, performance, and security. The right candidate should be able to demonstrate their ability to troubleshoot issues throughout the OSI/TCP IP layers
  • Utilize network monitoring and troubleshooting tools to identify and analyze network problems.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis on network incidents and implement preventive measures.

 

 

Network Administration:

  • Perform routine network maintenance tasks, such as firmware upgrades, patch management, and backup and recovery procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to end-users for network-related issues.
  • Coordinate with system administrators to integrate network services with other IT systems.

 

Research and Professional Development:

  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in networking.
  • Participate in training programs, workshops, and conferences to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
  • Pursue relevant certifications (such as CCNA, CCNP, or Network ) to demonstrate expertise and proficiency.

What We Are Looking For:

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 1 – 2 years experience as a Network Administrator or in a similar role
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies, including TCP, UDP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, switching and routing.
  • Knowledge of network security principles and best practices regarding firewalls, VPNs, encryption and access control/CCTV systems
  • Exposure to network monitoring and troubleshooting tools, such as Wireshark, SolarWinds, or Nagios.
  • Basic understanding of layers 1-3 of OSI model.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to logically diagnose and resolve complex network issues in reasonable time frame.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently when needed.
  • Desire to learn
  • The ability to dynamically adapt and stay in control during crisis scenarios is a plus.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry certifications, such as CCNA, CCNP, Network , or equivalent, are a plus.
  • Advanced Security Knowledge: Strong knowledge of advanced network security concepts and technologies, such as intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS) and advanced threat protection, is advantageous.
  • Multi-vendor Networking Experience: Familiarity with networking equipment from multiple vendors, such as Cisco, Fortinet, or Juniper, is a plus.
  • Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages like Python or PowerShell, as well as experience with network automation tools, is desirable.
  • Cloud Networking: Experience with Fortinet solutions in cloud environments, such as AWS or Azure, is preferred.
  • Project Management Skills: Strong project management skills are desirable for coordinating network infrastructure projects.
  • Vendor Relationships: Established relationships with Fortinet or other networking vendors are preferred.
  • Continuous Learning: Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, such as attending industry conferences or pursuing additional certifications, is valued.

 

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time
  • Must be able to effectively use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines
  • Must be able to perform some repetitive motions while using a computer
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear.  The associate frequently is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
