What are the responsibilities and job description for the Garden Worker position at The Hunger Task Force?
Part-Time 30 Hours/week
The garden employee will work under the direct supervision of the Garden Manager and Executive Director. No prior garden experience required.
This is a seasonal part time which runs mid-March to mid-October with an option to work off-season in our Food Recovery Warehouse.
Potential Hours:
Monday: 9:30 am-6:00 pm
Tuesday: OFF
Wednesday: OFF
Thursday: 9:30 am-6:00 pm
Friday: 8:00 am-3:00 pm
Saturday: 8:00 am-1:00 pm
Essential Job Functions
- Work with garden staff to implement goals and program outcomes of Kane Street Community Garden as developed.
- Assist the entire growing season of The Kane Street Community Garden from preparing, planting, maintaining, and harvesting produce.
- Help with training and supervising volunteers, service groups, for garden activities.
- Extend educational outreach and collaboration throughout the communities served.
- Assist with produce distribution during harvest nights.
- Collect and maintain necessary records.
- Maintain tools and equipment used at the garden
- Perform other duties as directed by Garden Manager and/or Executive Director.
- Attend special events or hold booths in community as related to the garden where appropriate.
Other Expectations/Requirements. The Garden Employee will:
- Have practical knowledge of and experience with vegetable gardening and organic growing methods.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs frequently and 50 lbs infrequently.
- Have knowledge and ability to present educational workshops, catering to audiences of differing ages, ethnicity and abilities.
- Have knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures.
- Have the ability to meet and deal with the public effectively and work with people of all ages and backgrounds, respecting the integrity of every person.
- Have the ability to accurately complete and maintain required records and reports
- Have the ability to be flexible in a work environment where rapid response to donors, recipient agencies and individuals is necessary.
- Be willing to comply with all policies and procedures that The Hunger Task Force of La Crosse, Inc. has developed for employees.
- Possess a current and valid driver license.
