The position of Senior Director of Finance is a full-time salaried, FLSA exempt, on-site position that is responsible for the fiscal direction and management of The Industrial Commons. It is a requirement for this individual to work on-site at our office in Morganton, North Carolina.

Primary Function: The primary function of this role is to lead and manage all financial functions of The Industrial Commons and oversee the Finance and Development Department. This includes ensuring efficient financial operations, compliance with regulations, effective grant management, and overseeing budgeting, reporting, and audits.
Essential Functions:
● Lead and manage a 4-5 person Finance and Development Department, ensuring efficient and compliant financial functions and grant management.
● Oversee and approve reconciliations, bank feeds, inter-company transactions, payroll, employee reimbursements, and deposits while ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures, internal controls, GAAP and best practice standards.
● Lead the preparation, monitoring, and analysis of long-range financial plans in collaboration with relevant staff and outside consultants; Manage cash, liquidity, and investments portfolio.
● Prepare and manage monthly budget variance reports, communicate updates to Co-Executive Directors and
ensure that revenue and expense projections are met. Prepare financial reports for Board meetings, ensuring content quality and clarity; attend meetings to answer financial queries.
● Lead development of the annual budget, alongside Co-Executive Directors and Program Directors, and ensure throughout the year monitoring of budget performance, and ongoing communication with various team members.
● Manage annual tax filings and audits working with outside accounting firms; review and approve all internal and external financial and compliance reporting for accuracy and quality.
● Ensure compliance with federal grant requirements, including OMB Circulars and 2 CFR Part 200 Subpart F, oversee audits for Federal awards and manage subawards for federal grants.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
● Educational and professional experience: Preferred candidates will have a degree in Business Administration or Accounting and/or between 7-10 years of experience as an accountant, in business administration, or in nonprofit finance or accounting.
● Financial Analysis and Management: Displays excellent financial analysis and management skills, with the ability to navigate financial statements and records, and a demonstrated understanding of GAAP.
● Communication Skills: Demonstrates exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain and present complex information through multiple methods in a way that various audiences can understand. This includes the capacity to represent the organization in an organized, professional manner and to “manage up”, preparing reports and information for funders, investors, Executive Team leadership, and Board of Directors.
● Intrapersonal Skills, Leadership and Decision-Making Skills: Builds strong relationships through active listening and integrity and handles feedback well. Displays leadership and a commitment to organizational and personal development, with the ability to handle multiple priorities autonomously. Proactively collaborates with TIC Finance, Development, and Admin teams to address challenges, make informed decisions, interpret complex regulations, and
maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
** Experience with any of the following is a plus: Familiarity with federal regulation 2 CFR part 200, single audits, financial management of capital investment projects, New Market Tax Credits.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
● Ability to occasionally lift 15 lbs-50 lbs.
● Ability to remain in a stationary position with computer work.
● Must be able to move about various office environments to access office machinery, products, and to communicate with staff.
● While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and interpret verbal communication.
● Ability to occasionally commute within the region and travel longer distances including overnight stays as needed.
