Associate Manager, Academic Programs

The Associate Manager, Academic Programs reports to the Barnett & Annalee Newman Curator for Contemporary Programs / Associate Director of Public Programs and also works closely with the Deputy Director, Education & Programs to develop and implement creative, dynamic, and inclusive programs for a range of adult audiences at the Jewish Museum with a special focus on universities. Responsibilities includes establishing partnerships with organizations and universities, designing art history courses for adults, organizing studio art classes, and supervising the Museum's internship program for undergraduate and graduate students including the Summer Institute. The Associate Manager, Academic Programs also conducts gallery talks and seminars for adult audiences including university groups. The ideal candidate is someone who can think outside the box, who is able to handle working on multiple projects at a time, who possesses a strong academic background in art history, and who has experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students in a museum setting.

Schedule : Full-Time

Responsibilities :

  • Oversee and implement the Museum's academic year internship program and the Summer Institute including reviewing applications, interviewing students, and conducting seminars
  • Maintain internship and fellowship partner programs with local universities
  • Conduct gallery programs for university groups and adult audiences
  • Teach classes for adult audiences including Art in Context art history courses
  • Research and implement outreach strategies for Adult Programs, ongoing university partnerships, and internship programs
  • Research program ideas and establish contact with potential speakers and performers
  • Liaise with speakers regarding logistics in advance of programs
  • Work with members of the Public Engagement team to develop promotional materials
  • Gather and organize program statistics for Museum reports

Requirements :

  • B.A. degree; M.A. preferred
  • 5 plus years of experience in museum education and programming, preferably with adult and university audiences
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and with diplomacy and empathy when interacting with artists, scholars, Museum staff, and the public
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle and prioritize detailed projects simultaneously and carry them through to completion
  • Creative, self-starter, collaborative and thoughtful team member
  • Flexible work schedule : some weekend and evening hours required
