ABR is recruiting a Humane Officer for the Portage County Humane Society!
Animal Control provides a multi-faceted range of services pertaining to domestic animal management within Portage County. Humane Officers provide 24/7/365 and work a rotating “on-duty” schedule. Humane Officers are tasked with mediating a wide array of situations. A high degree of professionalism is required at all times. The work is tremendously rewarding and offers daily opportunities to make a difference not only in the lives of individual animals but the entire community. Each day offers something new and you will definitely never find yourself bored in this position.

- Enforce local ordinances and Wisconsin State Statutes as they pertain to animal law
- Provide for the welfare of the domestic animals of Portage County
- Act as an ambassador for the Humane Society and Portage County Animal Control
Qualifications
- Must possess good interpersonal skills and be able to deal effectively with the public in stressful situations.
- Must possess the oral and written communication skills necessary to handle inquiries from the public, other organizations, municipalities, veterinarians and businesses.
- Work a rotating schedule of on-duty shifts requiring response at all hours of the day.
- Must be able to effectively present information.
- Excellent animal handling skills are required.
- Good organizational skills and basic computer knowledge are required.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Must consent to a background check.
- Must have a good driving record and valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
- Must live in Portage County
