This position serves as Director of Operations for the JHCP Hospital-Based Medicine (HBM) service line. The Director will partner with the JHCP Physician Section Chief of Hospital Based Medicine to ensure the highest quality of care, service, and efficiency are delivered to patients. The role includes daily oversight of the Hospital Based Medicine programs at Howard County General Hospital, Suburban Hospital, and Sibley Memorial Hospital. The Director will partner with the chief to lead business planning and strategy development. There is a heavy emphasis on monitoring financial data, understanding it, and sharing it with the physicians in a clear and concise manner. The Director has supervisory and management responsibilities for the Program Managers. The Director is responsible for metrics including finances, safety, service, quality, and efficiency, and is constantly monitoring and sharing these with the hospitals to ensure best practices.
The Director is responsible for the recruitment and onboarding of physicians for the hospitals. The Director also partners with the appropriate research administration staff to ensure submission of grants and contracts, as well as managing post-award management of funds and reporting.
Along with the Section Chief, the Director is responsible for developing, documenting, and revising operating policies and procedures for the hospital programs, as well as communicating to the providers and ensuring consistency among the hospital groups. Core responsibilities include : business process / operations, revenue cycle maximization, annual budget development, financial management, human resources, patient experience, organizational governance, quality improvement, risk management, and program development. The Director understands practices at the three hospitals and takes steps to standardize best practices across hospitals whenever possible. The Director measures and communicates clinical and financial outcomes and leads process improvements based on these metrics.
The JHCP Hospital Based Medicine Director reports to the Chief Operating Officer of Johns Hopkins Community Physicians with a dotted reporting relationship to the JHCP Physician Section Chief of Hospital Based Medicine. The Director works closely with JHCP Medical Affairs, Human Resources, and Finance, as well as each hospital-based President, VPMA, CFO, and Operations lead.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field required.
- Seven to ten plus years of progressively responsible experience including 3-5 years of management experience required.
- Ability to understand and navigate complicated governance / leadership structures. Ability to communicate with persistence and assertiveness combined with tact and diplomacy. Demonstrate data analysis skills. Understand quality- / performance-based reimbursement and its relation to hospitals. Understand patient satisfaction measures and scores including HCAHPS. Familiarity with commonly used hospital terminology, including procedure codes, RVUs, direct and indirect costs, average length of stay, and case mix index. Understand basics of Medicare and Medicaid physician reimbursement methodologies and the Maryland Hospital Services Cost Review Commission methodology.
Salary Range : Minimum $115,000 per year - Maximum $150,000 per year. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
