ABOUT THE JONNYCAKE YOUTH CENTER:
The Jonnycake Youth Center (JYC) will launch this spring to close opportunity and achievement gaps among South Kingstown students grades seven through twelve, with a focus on those who are economically disadvantaged. The JYC will provide out-of-school time activities, including summer opportunities, and collaborate with the South Kingstown School Department to offer programs at school when appropriate.
BASIC OVERVIEW:
The Youth Center Activities Leader (YCAL) is responsible for assisting with enrichment programs. The Activities Leader will help provide a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for youth. This position will also assist with transportation to and from programs that are offsite. This position is part-time (maximum 25 hours a week) and requires availability during weekday afternoons. The anticipated start date is mid-May. Hourly pay is between $22/hour and $25/hour.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assisting in Program Development and Implementation:
- Help plan and organize enrichment, recreational, and social activities for youth
- Support in setting up spaces for events, ensuring materials are prepared.
- Provide ideas for new programs that could be beneficial to the youth.
- Attend all training sessions relevant to the position.
2. Supervise and Engagement:
- Supervise youth participants to ensure they are safe and follow center rules.
- Actively engage with the youth during activities, providing guidance or encouragement.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork and community.
- Help with transporting youth to and from activities held outside of the youth center.
3. Administrative Tasks
- Help with registration, attendance, and documentation for programs.
- Maintain a clean and organized environment.
- Assist in reporting and evaluating the success of activities.
- Assist with clean up and maintenance of activity areas
4. Communication:
- Collaborate with other team members, supervisors, or community partners.
- Communicate with youth and families about upcoming events, activities, or any important news.
- Assist with the communication and placement of volunteers throughout the center.
5. Mentorship and Support:
- Provide mentorship to youth, offering guidance or assistance with personal development.
- Be a positive role model and help create a supportive and welcoming atmosphere.
6. Special Event Assistance:
- Assist with the coordination of special events, community outreach programs, or fundraisers.
- Support during events by managing logistics, supporting participants, and coordinating volunteers.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- College degree preferred, high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with youth in a community setting required.
- Must be twenty-five years old, have a valid driver’s license, and good driving record.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage a variety of activities and events.
- Compassionate, empathetic, and patient demeanor.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
CERTIFICATIONS: CPR and First Aid certification preferred. Will be required after hiring.

- Valid driver’s license
- Complete all Background checks required.
