Bank Teller Details

  • Employee Type: Part-time, Non-exempt
  • Schedule: Hours vary depending on location. Schedules are completed one month in advance and communicated to staff.
  • Minimum Starting Pay Rate: $16.13 per hour to start; pay will be commensurate with experience
  • Pay Grade Range: $16.13 - $24.18
  • Annual Merit Increases: JVB employees receive an annual performance evaluation, and a merit increase annually.
  • Training: We are willing to train capable individuals with no bank teller experience.

  • Paid Time Off (PTO): PTO is given to all full-time and part-time employees! For full-time positions, PTO starts at 16 days (128 hours) per year and for part-time positions, PTO is based on the number of hours that are worked in a calendar year. The more you work, the more you get the following year!
  • Volunteer Time Off (VTO): VTO is given to all full-time and part-time employees also! JVB compensates full-time employees for one full day and part-time employees for half a day of work in order for them to volunteer at an organization of their choosing.
  • 401(k) Match: JVB offers a .50 match on the dollar up to 8%. (You put in 8%, the Bank puts in 4%!)
  • 401(k) Plan – Safe Harbor: Following the close of the year, employees receive a 3% discretionary contribution into their 401(k) plans regardless of participation.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP): All employees are eligible to participate in ESPP each year and can purchase stock at a 5% discount!
  • Employee Annual Incentive Plan (EAIP): We win as a team! All employees hired prior to July 1 who receive a “meets expectations” or better on the annual performance evaluation, are eligible to receive the annual bonus that is paid out following the close of the year so long as we meet our annual goals!

Part-time Teller Responsibilities

Whether you want a change in career path or to get out of the house a few hours each week, a Part-time Teller position might be exactly what you are looking for! Many of our existing employees have started as a Part-time Bank Teller and worked their way into a Full-time Bank Teller, Customer Service Representative (CSR), Head Teller (Bank Teller Supervisor), and/or Bank Office Manager position. Other Part-time Bank Tellers have chosen to post for back-office positions and forge a path there. The career opportunities in banking are endless!

What does a Part-time Bank Teller do? The primary responsibility of a Bank Teller is to become knowledgeable about Bank products and services in order to provide exceptional service to our customers. These services include performing a variety of financial transactions and account-related requests, including most commonly processing account deposits and withdrawals. As individuals progress in their knowledge, they are also able to cross-sell products, open accounts, sell certificates of deposit, open IRA accounts, etc.


General Summary

Responsible for providing retail services to customers of the Bank; achieving customer service goals as established in the Community Banking Division’s annual operating plan; complying with operating policies and procedures established for the retail services function; communicating with appropriate personnel; responding to inquiries or requests for information; maintaining appropriate records and providing assigned reports.

Essential Duties

  1. Regular attendance is required and will vary by position. Specific hours should be discussed with supervisors and/or division managers. Based on need, the Bank does reserve the right to adapt at any point in time.  
  2. Provides retail services to customers of the Bank as follows:
  • Maintains working knowledge of various Bank products and services in order to sell and cross-sell services.
  • Answers inquiries in a friendly and courteous manner; provides information to customers on various accounts, loan balances and other bank services.
  • Meets or exceeds individual sales goals established by management.
  • Maintains a professional image that inspires customer confidence and trust; constantly maintains a pleasant demeanor; personalizes service by addressing customers by name; promotes cooperative team environment.
  • Performs the paying and receiving functions of a Teller; handles all transactions pertaining to cash, cash items, checking and savings deposits, bonds and various types of payment, opening new accounts, selling certificates of deposit, IRA accounts, and issuance of official checks.
  • Places and receives phone calls related to business development.
  • Maintains desired level of accuracy on work processed. Sells and cross-sells the Bank’s products and services. 
  • Performs duties ranging from sales to teller functions, and new account openings.
  • Attends and participates in required meetings.

3. Participates in Office’s sales objectives, as assigned annually.

4. Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of sexual harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the work place.

5. Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the Bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g. Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act, etc.

6. Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as with other divisions, and departments in order to insure the smooth and efficient flow of information.

7. Complies with established operating policies and procedures in order to maintain adequate controls and to support the Bank's adherence to outside regulatory requirements.

8. Communicates with management and staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities.

9. Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed depending upon individual circumstances.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

Education/Training: 

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.

Skill(s):

  • Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a service orientation for both internal and external customers
  • Knowledge of current banking regulations
  • Moderate computer skills
  • A working knowledge of bank operating policies and procedures which impact customer services 
  • A thorough knowledge of the features and benefits of all bank products and services 
  • Ability to exemplify the 4C’s Values of JVB – Committed, Caring, Connected, Capable
  • Visual and auditory skills and ability to stand, sit, stoop, reach and lift items weighing approximately 10 lbs.
  • Knowledge of the art of the conversation 

Experience:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in related positions normally required.
